Position Summary: The Direct Care Worker provides the day-to-day structure for residents. He/she provides a positive role model for each resident as he is challenged to change attitudes, behaviors, and work toward the goals set forth in their individual behavior plans. The Direct Care Worker provides the ongoing consistency needed to develop trust and respect in ongoing relationships with adult authority figures.
Qualifications:
1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
2. One year of working with adolescents preferred.
3. Must pass all background checks required by Department of Child Services.
4. Must be competent in reading and writing English.
5. Certified in CPR and First Aid.
6. Must be at least 21 years of age.
7. Valid state id.
8. Must be able to work flexible hours.
9. Experience working in residential setting a plus.
10. Must pass drug screen.
Primary Responsibilities:
I. Provide direct care services as outlined in the resident’s Plan of Care.
II. Assist in the establishment of a therapeutic environment in which residents can learn new skills.
III. Assist the residents in maintaining the environment in which they live in a clean and orderly manner.
IV. Ensure the safety and protection of all residents and staff. Follow emergency procedure as outlined in Procedure Manual.
V. Responsible for accurate documentation of events that occur during the shift.
VI. Responsible for notifying the Supervisor immediately of any problems or changes that may warrant additional assistance, i.e. injury or threats of injury or suspected abuse (not limited to these instances).
VII. Attend or complete all mandatory training, in-services, and meetings.
VIII. Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
1. Knowledge of: adolescent development and issues pertinent to their stage of growth and development; behavioral interventions; group interactions; and crisis intervention strategies.
2. Skill in: oral and written communications; developing appropriate relationships and providing positive role modeling.
3. Ability to: be a good listener and maintain a positive attitude in face of adversarial residents; identify precursors to crises and be able to diffuse the situations without escalation of the crisis; be creative and imaginative in relationship with residents.
4. Physical demands: Must be able to lift, sit, stand, bend, or stoop for long periods of time. Possess the sensory capacities to efficiently and successfully execute essential job functions.
