Position Title: ​​​Security Professional​​​Department: ​Facilities & Custodial​Reports to: Security SupervisorFLSA Status: ​Hourly, Non-Exempt​ Position SummaryThe Security Professional is responsible for ensuring the security of staff, guests, and facilities at Pacific Science Center. The Security Professional serves as a visible deterrent to crime, identifies suspicious activities, and addresses criminal acts or guest policy infractions which may be a threat to the property, guests, or employees on site. Our collaborative Security Team is committed to strengthening inclusion, diversity, equity, and access within our workplace and community. PacSci embraces science and our work together as a process of inquiry, discovery, and problem solving that helps us better understand our universe and each other. This position will work a regular schedule that requires weekend and evening work. There is a need for flexibility in scheduling at times to ensure coverage that meets operational needs. Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesSecure PremisesPerform lock-ups at exhibit closing time and later as other events concludePerform frequent interior and exterior roves with a critical eye for safety and security situationsActively monitor security cameras to maintain a full view of premisesRespond rapidly and appropriately to emergenciesProactively identify and respond to incidents, hazards, and unauthorized activity in the prescribed mannerProvide exemplary customer service when determining and responding to the needs of guests and staffAssist guests in wayfinding, including escorting guests to and from locationsActively monitor and respond to requests for support on radio callsInventory and maintain security equipment such as radiosConsistently wear and maintain a clean and tidy uniform (provided)Maintain accurate security records through written documentationAdhere to established procedures and protocols Other duties as assignedPosition RequirementsKnowledge or training in the following areas:Basic security principlesThe legal powers and limitations of security officersEmergency response trainingSafety and accident preventionReport writingAwareness of personal bias and demonstrated commitment to inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessSecurity and emergency response protocolsAbility to use cameras and associated equipment and softwareSkill in operating portable radio devicesAttention to detailProject professionalism and confidenceAbility to handle both common and crisis situations calmly and efficientlyAbility to provide exemplary customer service and employ effective de-escalation techniquesDemonstrated commitment to learning and continuously improving; incorporating feedback in a timely mannerEffective written and oral communication and interpersonal skills with ability to collaborate with all levels of personnel and the general public in a professional and effective mannerBasic proficiency with Microsoft Suite, and communication platforms such as email and SharePointUse initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines.Qualifications Required High school diploma or equivalent experienceAt least 18 years of ageCurrent first aid and CPR training and certifications (or within six months of hire)Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English.Preferred Prior security and law enforcement experienceProficiency in a second language such as but not limited to Spanish, Somali, Mandarin, ASL, and/or Vietnamese is a highly preferred skill.
