Pacific Whale Foundation is seeking a Safety Technician to support Pacific Whale Foundationʻs safety programs and initiatives. As the Safety Technician you will be responsible for implementing and monitoring PacWhale’s safety program to mitigate overall risk to the organization by completing task-based work. Shoreside work will include collecting and sorting digital records, editing internal documents, maintaining safety inventory and distributing equipment. Dockside and at sea work will include audits, gathering of samples and measurements, making deliveries and reports. This position works closely with all department managers, and the safety group, to 1) proactively identify risks and implement prevention measures, and 2) thoroughly investigate all accidents and occupational injuries and illnesses to identify and address the root cause. This position reports to the Organizational Maintenance and Safety Manager.
Our ideal candidate has a high school education or GED and can communicate clearly and effectively regarding safety needs. You will also have computer skills including the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook, be detail oriented and be comfortable on boats. USCG Safety compliance knowledge, vessel mooring, and harbor system and OSHA 30 Cert will set you apart.
The salary range is $18.50 - $25.96/hr. ($38,500 – $54,000/yr.). This is a full-time, hourly, non-exempt position based at our headquarters in Ma’alaea Harbor.
The position’s schedule is Friday to Tuesday and some travel required to other islands to dry dock facilities as needed.
