Position Title: Marine Pipefitter
Reports To: Pipefitter Superintendent
Relocation Assistance will NOT be offered for this position.

Position Summary:
PSI is the largest privately owned shipyard in Hawaii, with two of the largest dry docks in the state. We have been in business since 1944 and have a large labor force of skilled craftsman with a full support staff of professionals who comprise of engineering, project management, QA, EHS, accounting, contracts, and human resources.

A Marine Pipe-fitter is to capable of planning, layout, fabricating, assembling, installing, repairing, and modifying piping systems, and pipe assemblies requiring close tolerance fit and structural soundness on ships, boats, barges and other floating marine equipment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Ability to perform threading, soldering, gluing, welding and/or brazing of pipe and fittings
  • The Marine Pipefitter must be able to properly use the tools of his/her trade such as wrenches, power threading equipment, power band saws, levels and other common hand tools
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Skills/Technical Knowledge:

  • Ability to read and understand drawings and specifications
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and balance priorities
  • Good attitude; must be a team player

Education, Training & Experience:

  • The shipyard Pipefitter must have minimum of 5 year of experience with pipe fitting in the Marine Industry.
  • Must be a high school graduate or hold a GED and must have successfully completed the applicable union journeyman's program.
  • Must be able to read and interpret Blueprints for piping systems.
  • When completing welding/brazing the Pipefitter must be certified by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) when performing welding/brazing on jobs requiring ABS inspection and approval.
  • Candidate should have a Weld certification in either GMAW for Steel and or Aluminum in one of the following positions 1G, 2G, 3G or 4G.
  • Ideal Candidate will have Certification or a minimum of 3 years’ experience in TIG welding of various materials.
  • Candidate must also weld pipe supports and ensure proper alignment of piping for system layout and cohesiveness.
  • Must be able to perform pipe bending using pipe bending tools and pipe bending machine.
  • Candidate should be able to identify different material used on shipboard piping systems and the levels of cleanliness for each type of system as required by our customers.
  • Be familiar with the NAVSEA Standard Items that apply to piping onboard US Navy vessels.
  • Flexibility in work. Candidates must be available to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and varying shifts as required.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Shipyard/Industrial Experience valuable

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to carry, lift, push/pull, bend, and squat up to 50 lbs.

Description of Work Environment:

  • Shipyard environments will vary making it necessary to tolerate weather conditions, such as rain and extreme temperatures.
  • Employees may be exposed to dust, dirt, varying temperatures, loud noises, etc.

Qualification/Requirements:

  • Must show proof of your legal right to work in the United States
  • This position requires US Citizenship due to clearance required for base access
  • Must be able to successfully obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)
  • Must be able to successfully obtain and maintain a Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS) Credential to gain access to federally controlled work sites
  • All candidates must submit to and pass a post-offer drug screening and a background check before employment begins. Failure to complete any of these steps will result in disqualification
  • Valid State of Hawaii drivers' license in good standing, class 3 or higher
  • Candidates must have access to reliable transportation to get to work and other job sites on time for the start of shift

This position is represented by The International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, Iron Shipbuilders, Blacksmiths, Forgers, and Helpers, AFL-CIO and its Local Lodge 627. Candidates must become a member of the union as a condition of employment.
