Department Overview

Gas Operations is focused on ensuring the safe and reliable flow of natural gas to our customers. As a whole, Gas Operations is responsible for all aspects of PG&E's gas distribution and transmission operations, including planning, engineering, maintenance and construction, restoration and emergency response.

This position is located within the Transmission Integrity Management Program (TIMP) within PG&E's Asset Management and Systems Operation (AM&SO) Organization. Gas Operations AM&SO is responsible for maintaining over 6,000 miles of gas transmission pipelines throughout California. This Department is responsible for the overall administration and implementation of the TIMP and the evaluation of overall risk to the gas transmission system. This includes overseeing the completion of integrity management assessments, identifying High Consequence Areas (HCA), maintaining PG&E's assessment plan as required by 49 CFR Subpart O, and managing PG&E's overall gas risk management program.

  • Improve pipeline safety and system reliability with a goal of zero safety incidents.
  • Promote a safety culture throughout all levels of the organization with an emphasis on improving learning from the past and anticipating the future.
  • Apply integrity management principles on a system-wide basis while engaging our stakeholders, from local communities we operate in to our regulators, so they can understand and participate in reducing our risk.
  • Support the design, construction, operation and maintenance of the transmission and distribution pipeline systems through the proactive use of asset knowledge, threat identification, knowledge of threat interaction, data integration and analytical tools to increase operational efficiency, improve system integrity and minimize safety risk to employees and the communities we operate in.

Position Summary

The Sr. Gas Risk Engineer position is situated in the Transmission Risk & Assessment Planning (TRAP) group within TIMP. The successful candidate will support the TIMP Management of Change (MOC) Process and support the development and analysis of the Working Assessment Plan (WAP). This position reports to the Supervising Engineer and is critical to the Gas Transmission Integrity Management Program. The role requires an individual to have working knowledge in 49 CFR * 192 Subpart O, Integrity Management principles, and gas transmission operations. This position will work with a larger team of engineers and GIS specialists to implement and support the requirements of TD-4810S and TD-4819P-01.

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of thejob posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will bebased on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience,market value, geographic location, and internal equity.Although we estimatethe successful candidate hiredinto this rolewill be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decisionwill be made on a case-by-casebasis related tothese factors.

A reasonable salary range is:

  • Minimum Base Salary (Bay Area) $128,000.00
  • Mid Base Salary (Bay Area) $173,000.00
  • Maximum Base Salary (Bay Area) $218,000.00

Responsibilities

  • Support the development & validation of TIMP's Assessment Plans
  • Perform risk engineering review for Management Of Change (MOC) requests in support of assessment scope changes, project deferrals, policy variances, and other changes sought by various stakeholders.
  • Review and approve Assessment Completion Notifications for assessment credit in the AP.
  • Utilize the results of the integrity management reviews to make recommendations for risk mitigation
  • Utilize GIS & Databases to respond to IM related requests
  • Participate in and lead integrity management procedure revisions and process development/improvement for the Management of Change Document
  • Respond to assessment-related questions in specific area of responsibility
  • Develop assessment identification and scoping plans for implementation teams to execute work
  • Respond to regulatory reporting, performance metrics, and data requests
  • Work closely with upstream and downstream partners to ensure proper data handoffs

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelors' degree in Engineering with emphasis on related/assigned discipline (i.e., mechanical, civil or electrical engineering, etc.)
  • 5 years' experience in gas transmission or distribution design, operations, and/or maintenance environment

Desired:

  • Knowledge of and experience work with Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
  • Knowledge of the various types of risk assessment methodologies
  • Knowledge of 49 CFR Part 192 Subpart O
  • Knowledge of the various pipeline integrity assessments
  • Knowledge of and experience with TIMP's WAP and IM Flags list
  • Knowledge and understanding of the threat categories discussed in ASME B31.8S
  • PE (Professional Engineer) License
