The Staff Accountant is responsible for assisting with maintaining financial records and reports, performing general ledger account and bank statement reconciliations, preparing journal entries, maintaining accounts payable documentation. The staff accountant will also assist the accounting manager as needed and respond to information requests by management and for auditing purposes.

Responsibilities

What You’ll Do:

• Reconcile the general operating account and enters cash receipts and payments into the General Ledger on a daily basis.
• Assist with the daily positive pay upload and month-end closing process, conducting research and answering questions, and making correcting journal entries for account discrepancies. 
• Assist with monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
• Match purchase orders to invoices and enter invoices into accounting software. 
• Pay vendors by monitoring discount opportunities, verifying federal id numbers, scheduling, and preparing checks, resolving purchase order, contract, invoice, or payment discrepancies and documentation; insuring credit is received for outstanding memos, issuing stop-payments or purchase order amendments.
• Maintain and update accounting records and files as needed.
• Performing ad-hoc projects on an as needed basis.

Qualifications

What You’ll Bring:

• Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or equivalent from a four-year college
• 5 years of experience as Staff Accountant
• Knowledge of general accounting principles, regulatory standards, and compliance requirements 
• Proficiency in MS Office, including the ability to operate computerized accounting and spreadsheet programs. 
• High degree of accuracy, attention to detail and confidentiality with excellent data entry skills. 
• Excellent analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills with effective verbal, listening and written communication skills. 
• Effective organizational, stress and time management skills. 
• A sense of urgency and ability to meet deadlines. 
• Ability to work independently or as a team member.
