The IT Specialist role is a full-time, Monday-Friday, from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., onsite position located in Oakdale, MN. 

Responsible for qualifying, validating, and maintaining Life Sciences IT systems within a GMP state. Provides technical and GMP IT regulatory support for the installation, qualification, validation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and administration of software, hardware, and personal computers for the Life Sciences division.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

This class specification lists the major duties and requirements of the job and is not all-inclusive. Incumbent(s) may be expected to perform job-related duties other than those contained in this document and may be required to have specific job-related knowledge and skills. 

  • Provides complex support to end users via the Service Desk
  • Provides break/fix support to end users
  • Manages user accounts, access, and passwords; creates user groups, accounts, and computers in Active Directory and email for users/sites
  • Maintains and tracks inventories of hardware for laboratory workstations, user laptops, and peripherals in the appropriate systems
  • Executes complex projects related to the department or office to which assigned
  • Participates in the sourcing of IT equipment needs
  • Assists users in determining their hardware and software needs
  • Installs, tests, documents, and maintains user laptops and company-supported cell phones
  • Installs and validates complex instrument software on workstations
  • Assists end users in the complex operation of hardware and software
  • Monitors scheduled backups of premises servers and workstations data, adhering to adopted back-up and retention policies; escalates outages to management; assists in determining the resolution
  • Troubleshoots intermediate data and internet service outages (e.g., Wi-Fi); escalates outage to management as needed; communicates outage as directed to impacted users/sites
  • Provide Patch and Managed Switch support.
  • Provides on-call support for site/division as assigned
  • Installs and maintains communications systems (e.g., Wi-Fi) between user laptops and network systems and other Pace® systems; troubleshoot simple problems
  • Provide New Employee training
  • Performs simple DNS/DHCP tasks
  • Assists in the creation of virtual servers (e.g., VMWare)
  • Investigate intermediate virus threats on user laptops and instrument workstations
  • Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the department's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team.
  • Promotes and supports the overall mission of Pace® by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with customers and staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. 

Education and Experience: 

Associate degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field; AND one to three (1-3) years of experience installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting user laptops/network/server hardware and software; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills 

Required Knowledge: 

  • Complex familiarity with Microsoft operating systems and software, networking switches, and data networks, IP telecommunications systems, and audio/visual systems and equipment
  • Complex use of specified computer applications involving word processing, office automation, and/or standard report generation
  • Complex techniques regarding the installation and maintenance of user laptops and network hardware and software
  • Complex techniques regarding local area network hardware and software capabilities and installation
  • Complex techniques regarding documentation and user instruction methods
  • Correct business English, including spelling, grammar, and punctuation
  • Complex familiarity with TCP/IP, best practices in cabling/cable management, Cisco switches, routers, and network cards

  • Overseeing and bringing specified projects to a successful conclusion in multiple functional areas.
  • Troubleshooting network hardware and software
  • Installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting user laptop hardware and software, including peripheral equipment
  • Performing simple backup and restoration services
  • Recognizing intermediate security/virus issues and solutions
  • Working without close supervision in standard work situations
  • Using initiative and independent judgment within established procedural guidelines
  • Record-keeping principles and practices
  • Maintaining accurate records of work performed
  • Preparing clear and concise documentation, user instructions, reports, correspondence, and other written materials
  • Contributing effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives, and activities
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with a variety of individuals contacted in the course of the work

WORKING ENVIRONMENT: 

Work is performed in an office setting. Work may be subject to travel and exposure to electrical shocks. Work may also be subject to chemicals, fumes, gasses, noxious odors, and related items in a lab setting.
