Lower School Associate Teacher

Pace Academy is an independent college preparatory school in Atlanta, Ga., with an enrollment of 1,150 students in Pre-First through 12th grade. The school provides a learning environment that cultivates global citizenship, a spirit of service, respect for differences and strong character in its students. The Lower School division enrolls 360 students from Pre-First through fifth grade, with three homerooms of approximately 20 students at each grade level.

The Associate Teacher works with and is supervised by a Homeroom Teacher to provide a positive learning environment for each student. Teachers at this level are invested in students’ academic, emotional and character development. At Pace, we hire enthusiastic and energetic professionals who are dedicated to teaching and passionate about making a difference in the lives of children.

The Lower School is characterized by joy in learning and in discovery amongst students and teachers. Associate Teachers assist the Homeroom Teacher in creating a dynamic learning environment for every student. They help manage daily classroom tasks and have teaching and supervisory responsibilities as assigned by the Homeroom Teacher. They are eager to grow as educators and learn from the Homeroom Teacher, the leadership team and faculty.

The ideal candidate has been successful in a collaborative setting, exhibits good judgment and possesses excellent communication skills. Enthusiasm for teaching, especially young students, is a critical quality. They should possess a wealth of patience, humor, energy and creativity and work well within a team of teachers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Is committed to the success of every student in the classroom

  • Confers with the Homeroom Teacher on student progress and daily classroom tasks

  • Effectively incorporates principles of diversity, equity and inclusion in all aspects of Lower School life

  • Models and reinforces the Noble Knights Pillars of Character

  • Performs supervisory duties, including instruction in specific learning areas, and early morning duties

  • Participates in regular faculty and professional meetings and teacher training workshops and is committed to learning best practices with colleagues

  • Attends after-school faculty meetings, evening parent gatherings and weekend admissions events as necessary

  • Other duties may be assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A or B.S) required; elementary education degree preferred

  • Love of young children and their development

  • A positive outlook, flexibility and a collaborative, nurturing nature

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication (both oral and written) skills

  • Proficient using educational technology, including interactive whiteboards

  • Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion practices
