Pa Senate Democratic Caucus is Hiring a District Director Near Allentown, PA

DISTRICT DIRECTOR

SUMMARY

Democratic Lehigh County State Senator seeks District Director. The District Director (DD) oversees and manages all district-based operations of the office to meet the following objectives:

  • Effective and efficient operations for the Allentown District Office, including management of full time and part time staff members and interns.
  • Project manage various initiatives including but not limited to stakeholder and grant coordination for capital project needs, local economic development projects, grant facilitation, etc.
  • Establish strong and productive relationships with district stakeholders with a focus on delivering tangible deliverables for various community initiatives.
  • Provide high-quality constituent service.
  • Participate in evening and weekend events as needed.

This position reports to the Chief of Staff.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervisory: Directly supervises district office staff; carries out responsibilities in accordance with office policy and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training district office employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining district office employees; addressing complaints; and resolving problems.

Responsible for effective and efficient operations for the district office:

  • Collaborate with the CoS to manage various ongoing projects within the district. Examples include economic development projects and other initiatives driven by the Senator, organizing groups, and executing project plans.
  • Support the execution of district operations and events.
  • Prepare, or oversee preparation of, briefing materials for district events, appointments, and meetings.
  • Assist staff on the execution of events and ensure coordination between events and all other district operations.
  • Reply to incoming correspondence and distribute as required.
  • Work with the Constituent Services Representatives to ensure high quality, consistent, and timely service is provided to all constituents and that the Senator’s correspondence is effectively managed.
  • Familiarize yourself and build relationships with community resources, non-profits, and municipal leaders to better serve the needs of our constituents.
  • Serve as backup liaison between the office and all state agencies in relation to district activities.
  • Serve as primary liaison between the Senator and district stakeholders, including municipal and county officials, businesses, community organizations, and all other entities seeking to work with the office on matters concerning state government.
  • Personally staff the Senator in high-level district meetings and at events or assign other district staff to staff the Senator as needed. Ensure district staff follow meeting follow up protocol.
  • Attend meetings with constituents, elected officials, and stakeholders on behalf of the Senator throughout the district.
  • Speak on behalf of the Senator at public events.
  • Communicate regularly with the Chief of Staff to brief them on constituent and district-wide issues, make policy recommendations, and obtain their input and approval when needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Management experience required.
  • Exceptional communication skills – written and oral, including public speaking.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Possess a “problem solver” and “takes initiative” mentality.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including some nights and weekends required.
  • Access to reliable transportation for events and other travel needs required.
  • Knowledge and proficiency of state agencies and grant processes, local organizations and nonprofits, and local municipal structure required.

General Job Information:

  • Permanent full-time position, 75 hours bi-weekly, 8:45am – 5:00pm, Monday through Friday, excellent state benefits
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including some nights and weekends required.
  • Access to reliable transportation for events and other travel needs required.
  • The salary range for this position is $70,000 - $90,000 and commensurate with experience
