Established in 1985, The ALS Association is the only national nonprofit organization fighting ALS on every front. By leading the way in global research, providing assistance for people with ALS through a nationwide network of chapters, coordinating multidisciplinary care through certified clinical care centers, and fostering government partnerships, The Association builds hope and enhances quality of life while aggressively searching for new treatments and a cure.This position will be based within the Midwest Territory (IA, MN, ND, SD, WI, NE, KS, MO, IL, MI, IN). POSITION SUMMARY: Reporting to the Midwest Territory Executive,the Managing Director of Development serves as the strategic leader in all revenue for the territory, includingpeer-to-peer, distinguished events, individual giving, and corporate engagement. The Managing Director of Development is responsible for providing overall management, planning, execution, and leadership, as well as implementation of strategy for the Midwest territory. The Managing Director of Development will lead and develop a team of staff responsible for executingTeam Challenge ALS, Walk to Defeat ALS, Distinguished Events, golf and gala events. This role will partner with all fundraising staff to ensure success in The ALS Association fundraising efforts by providing leadership, strategic direction, resources, and training. Additionally, the Managing Director, Development of the Midwest Territory will ensure direction and guidance is provided with a strong focus on meeting financial goals and building a foundation for future growth. This key leader is responsible for ensuring $16 Million in revenue for the Association. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Core duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following. Other duties may be assigned .
  • In conjunction with the Territory Executive and Home Office Development Leadership, develop, and implement the vision and Territory operational plan for the Association's fundraising.
  • Build, develop and mentor territory staff/volunteers to implement all best practices and standards for the walk, endurance, and distinguished fundraising programs with a strong emphasis on growing participation and retention, maximizing corporate opportunities and existing relationships and maximizing fundraising potential.
  • Effectively lead and manage the Territory Signature Events Team by providing clear vision, expectations, and direction.
  • Collaborate with revenue source leaders, such as, Major Gifts, Corporate, Planned Giving, and all other Development team members to develop and enhance fundraising efforts.
  • Proactively stay up-to-date on current industry practices/standards and create a cross- functional process/team to ensure that the Association's fundraising programs remain novel, competitive, and at the top of the industry.
  • Implement effective strategies, with the development teams throughout the Territory with a critical thinking, analytical and collaborative approach.
  • Lead and actively participate in regular calls and on-site meetings with Territory staff.
  • Ensure the development and execution of a training program for Development staff, including new staff and ongoing event fundraising training via structured virtual and in person training.
  • Partnering with the Data Technology and Integration (DTI) leads, develop and continue to enhance the management tools, metrics and reports needed to effectively drive the Signature Events program.
  • Monitor the progress of the Team Challenge ALS, Walk to Defeat ALS and Distinguished Events programs throughout the Midwest Territory and develop timelines and strategies to ensure that tasks are completed on time and within budget.
  • Maintain benchmarking metrics to measure program effectiveness and return on investment. Review program performance reporting and conduct data analysis for all event activities.
  • Conduct strategic planning and assess Territory fundraising practices and provide fact-based guidance on expansion opportunities for the territory fundraising programs.
  • Build collaborative relationships with Territory volunteers to generate a work plan that addresses specific market/territory characteristics and opportunities to add value and increase revenue.
  • Positively represent The ALS Association.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Directly supervises all Development Directors within the Territory.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies andapplicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems .
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Five to seven years, minimally, of professionaldevelopment experience including experience in non-profit event management and peer-to-peer fundraising experience required .
  • Team Player that can interact with all levels of personnel and volunteers. Must possess the ability to develop, maintain, and utilize relationships efficiently.
  • Ability to envision and develop fundraising programs, consisting of staff orientation, training, stewardship and motivation in a chapter, territory, or national management role.
  • Possess a proven track record of managing Peer-to-Peer campaign fundraising with an emphasis on strategic planning, financial management, volunteer management and team building.
  • Experience in recruiting and managing Territory and National Walk Teams and Corporate Partners.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent analytical ability with strong attention to development reports and trends.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of integrity and confidentiality in working with sensitive, confidential records and information.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. Self-starter, requiring little supervision.
  • Knowledge of database software; Development software; internet software; Inventory software, Project Management software; spreadsheet software and Word processing software.
  • Ability to travel locally and nationally, as required or requested.
The ALS Association's pay range for this position is$108,140 - $121,014 annually.

The ALS Association has compensation ranges for various work locations throughout the United States, allowing us to compensate employees competitively and consistently in diverse geographic markets. The above-listed listed range shows prospective compensation for this role; the appropriate range will be established by what is eventually determined to be the candidate's primary work location. Various factors, including the complexity and significance of the role, job duties/requirements, relevant experience and abilities, and primary work location, determine individual compensation. Compensation ranges are evaluated and typically adjusted on a regular basis. Offers are made within the compensation range that is in effect at the time of the job offer.

The Association may, at its discretion, offer merit-based increases tied to individual performance. The benefits listed may differ depending on employment status with the Association. Healthcare benefits, a 401(k) plan with employer match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, well-being benefits, paid time off and several paid holidays are available to Association employees, among other benefits.
