Outagamie County is Hiring a Shelter Care- House Manager (Full Time) Near Appleton, WI

The House Manager assists the Supervisor with staff supervision and coordination of the administration and operation of the facility. Performs other duties including working with area vendors to purchase food and other supplies, maintaining records, etc.
Shelter Care is a looking for a House Manager to partner with the Supervisor and Co-House Manager to support the staff and youth. The House Managers work directly with youth to meet their basic needs, model positive interactions and de-escalate situations as they arise. This position also assists in staff development and managing the needs of the facility. Working at Shelter Care is a great opportunity to mentor youth, and collaborate with other systems such as Youth Justice, Child Protection and Mental Health. 
Hours are:
Full Time 2nd ShiftWorking four 10-hour shifts a week, including every other weekendShift Times: 12-10pm & 1-11pm

The following duties are most critical for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. 
  • Assists the Supervisor Youth Social Work Services in supervision, training, directing and evaluating Youth Care Specialist staff.
  • Assists the Supervisor Youth Social Work Services in the review and maintenance of all Shelter Care client and staff records. Actively participates in Unit and Division Meetings and implements decisions that are made.
  • Develops nutritional menus; purchases and verifies all incoming goods for quality; dates and stores items and maintains accurate records of purchase 
  • Inventories all perishable and non-perishable items weekly; organizes and maintains all storage areas; maintains records of operational expenses.
  • Trains and oversees staff to assure food service, operational procedures, and facility maintenance responsibilities are routinely completed. 
  • Assures that Licensing Rules for Shelter Care Facilities issued by the Division of Community Services are followed.
  • Coordinates the scheduling of Youth Care Specialist coverage and makes recommendations for training. 
  • Assures that Youth Care Specialist staff interact professionally with youth residents on an individual or group basis, provide a positive rehabilitative influence, maintain discipline and enforce the rules and regulations of the facility.
  • Monitors and operates electronic security equipment in the facility and arranges needed maintenance. 
  • Cooperates and maintains clear communication with Department, Law Enforcement, Social Service Agencies, Schools and Residents Significant Others, in providing consistent supervision and maintaining a safe, clean and stimulating environment to enhance a positive climate for growth.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Work or a related field, with a minimum of one year social work, family counseling, or crisis intervention experience. 
  • Experience working with youth.
  • Supervisory background preferred.
  • Or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Assign, supervise, and review the work of others and make recommendations to the supervisor. 
  • Comprehend and interpret a variety of documents including statutes, court forms, telephone log, billing forms, accounting ledgers, cookbooks, policy and procedure manuals, resident files, work orders, etc.
  • Prepare a variety of documents including menus, youth care log, runaway forms, invoices, checks and checking records, purchase orders, temporary physical custody authorizations, waivers, etc. 
  • Communicate effectively with residents, parents, social workers, public defenders, intake workers, school personnel, maintenance workers, counseling centers, attorneys, police, and others verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to operate a variety of office equipment including personal computer, computer terminal, calculator, dictaphone, telephone, fax, EM and security equipment. 
  • Ability to operate a variety of household appliances including dishwasher, microwave, clothes washer and dryer, vacuum cleaner, etc.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, pull; or otherwise move objects up to 30 pounds, understanding and utilizing proper body mechanics.
