1. Follow district, building, and departmental policies and procedures.2. Treat all students, staff and parents and others encountered on the job with respect, compassion and patience.3. Maintain confidentiality of information regarding students and staff.4. Administer medications in accordance with school district policy.5. Assist with the supervision of students.6. Work with individual or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills.7. Perform clerical tasks, which may include filing, checking worksheets, attendance records, duplication, etc.8. Maintain an atmosphere conducive to independent work.9. Assist students in all phases of school processes.10. Serve as the chief source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher.11. Prepare instructional materials for students’ use.12. Guide students’ independent study, enrichment work and remedial work as set up and assigned by the classroom teacher.13. Alert the classroom teacher to any problem or special information about individual students.OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES1. Perform such other appropriate duties as may be assigned.2. Meet with student intervention teams as deemed necessary.3. Perform other appropriate duties as may be assigned by the supervising teacher or principal according to the contractual conditions.
1. An associate (or higher) degree, completion of at least two years of post secondary study at an institution of higher education (at least 48 credits, exclusive of credits earned in remedial or developmental courses), or: knowledge of and ability to assist in reading, writing, and mathematics instruction and attainment of a rigorous standard of quality through a formal assessment. (WorkKeysACT, Parapro-Assessments ETS, ParaEducator Master Teacher).2. Experience working with students preferred.3. Ability to interact tactfully, effectively, and courteously with students, parents, staff and others encountered on the job.4. Ability to follow written and verbal directions.5. Ability to staff the position for the scheduled workday.6. Ability to perform basic language, writing, and computational skills.7. Basic computer literacy and/or willingness to expand skills in this area.8. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may find appropriate and acceptable.
