Opportunity Resource Services is Hiring a Summer Support Staff - Keene, TX Near Cleburne, TX

Summer support staff is needed for a variety of functions, which includes one-week of dorm supervision, office support, chaperoning field trips, tutoring, and transporting supplies as needed. The pay rate is based on job function, education, & experience. The Summer Program is hosted at Southwestern Adventist University in Keene, Texas. The Summer Program instructional dates are Tuesday - Thursday, June 10 - July 19.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Successful college experience beyond high school
  • Able to set strong professional boundaries with youth
  • Ability to coach behavior of youth
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Positive and self-starting attitude
  • Dependable, trustworthy, and patient
  • A strong desire to help students achieve their goals
  • Demonstrated ability to problem-solve
  • Able to work in a high-energy and ever-changing atmosphere 

Preferred Qualifications

  • An associate’s degree or a minimum of two years of experience in providing teaching or tutoring
  • Demonstrated academic excellence (i.e. high GPA)
  • Direct experience working with youth from disadvantaged backgrounds
  • Experience providing support services for students from multicultural and low-income communities
  • Personal experience overcoming barriers similar to those confronting the project’s target population
  • Previous TRIO experience

Responsibilities

  • Providing support, advice, and tutorial help for students to ensure their academic development and success in their summer classes
  • Supporting program activities & field trips 
  • Chaperoning students while on-campus and on field trips
  • Establishing positive mentoring relationships with students and addressing character issues that affect their ability or will affect their ability to succeed in high school, college, and beyond
  • Addressing issues related to college readiness, including topics such as navigation of the college system, the application process, financial aid, study habits, etc.
  • Attend meetings and training 
  • Submit required paperwork on time
  • Assisting with ad hoc projects as needed

Physical Demands: Must be able to lift and carry 40 lbs., stand and walk for long periods of time, endure strong heat and cold, climb stairs, and travel by bus for long distances. Must be able to project voice and speak publicly, spend extensive hours in front of a computer screen, and be able to listen carefully to others on the telephone.
