Upward Bound Classroom Facilitators collaborate with program staff to deliver a rigorous curriculum during the Summer Program. Instructors must encourage students to focus on college prior to high school, and encourage them to become lifelong learners. The Summer Program is hosted at Southwestern Adventist University in Keene, Texas. The Summer Program instructional dates are Tuesday - Thursday, June 18 - July 11.

Minimum Qualifications

• Baccalaureate degree
• Experience managing a classroom and implementing educational technology
• Must have experience working with high school students
• Must have patience and a strong desire to help students achieve their goals

Preferred Qualifications

• Teaching Certification
• Two years of experience teaching high school students
• Experience using resources such as IXL and/or Nearpod to deliver instruction
• Ability to learn new technology 
• Direct experience providing academic support & instruction for students from multicultural and low income communities

Responsibilities

• Utilize innovative classroom techniques and methodologies to keep students engaged and involved in challenging learning opportunities
• Utilize online curriculum resources such as IXL Learning and Nearpod to help students achieve course objectives
• Facilitate a robotics camp curriculum (resources and all lesson plans will be provided)
• Facilitate a positive and productive learning environment
• Facilitate elective courses (art, sports, college/career readiness, and life skills)
• Provide feedback to students that will enhance their academic growth
• Monitor and report student attendance
• Refer to the supervisor those students not making adequate progress
• Formatively evaluate student progress and determine improvement strategies for students using reports to identify and make recommendations for practice 
• Monitor team building activities and brain breaks to provide social/emotional support for students
• Use positive reinforcement and gamification to encourage student achievement

Physical Demands: Must be able to lift and carry 40 lbs., stand and walk for long periods of time, and be able to project voice and speak publicly.
