OPPORTUNITIES, INC. is Hiring an Enterprise Risk Management Lead Near Irvine, CA

The ERM Lead is expected to contribute to and drive the overall advancement and integration of core program objectives across the Bank, promoting risk and control communication for augmented transparency, decision making and risk optimization. The individual must provide thought and project leadership, possess excellent information generation/presentation skills, and communicate and collaborate effectively with senior management, colleagues, and teammates across all three lines of defense. The position will work closely with business line and executive management in carrying out the assigned duties. The Sr ERM Specialist demonstrates independent judgement with a minimal amount of supervision and direction and assists the ERM team by performing wide range of services, many of which are complex and confidential in nature.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Demonstrate independence in the execution of the annual enterprise RCSA workshops and quarterly enterprise RCSA updates in collaboration with first and second line of defense risk owners.
  • As part of the RCSA process, assist senior and executive management in identifying and assessing existing and emerging risks, and developing metrics and thresholds for key risk indicators, key performance indicators, early warning indicators, and action plans when needed.
  • Ensure that appropriate risk owners are designated.
  • Provide effective review and challenge of management inputs into the RCSA, promoting accuracy and improvement.
  • Train and facilitate risk owners to properly conduct and document RCSA process in Archer. - Provide guidance to risk owners regarding identifying risks, measuring risk impacts and identifying effective control process.
  • Work with risk owners and senior managers to develop relevant and measurable key risk and control indicators.
  • Manage the maintenance of the risk register, control inventory and risk taxonomy in Archer. - Ensure identified control gaps and failures are appropriately incorporated through Archer into RCSA results.
  • Review Internal Audit and Compliance reports to determine if RCSA ratings need adjustment.
  • Support senior management and ERM leadership in ensuring that risks are mitigated to levels consistent with the Bank’s risk appetite.
  • Make recommendations to policies, processes and procedures to improve risk optimization, mitigation, and reduce gaps.
  • Engage and develop effective working relationships with business owners and support partners to support cooperative responses to risk management matters and issues.
  • Communicate progress and report results related to assigned responsibilities on a regular basis to ERM management.
  • Promote risk awareness through consultative guidance on risk management program matters.
  • Ensure compliance with enterprise-wide Issues Management program within the Archer GRC platform.
  • Drive continuous improvement of the issues management process, engaging business and risk partners across the Bank as appropriate.
  • Ensure transparency on progress of issue resolutions.
  • Monitor the issues portfolio for the Bank, inclusive of regulatory matters.
  • Work with partners in 1st, 2nd and 3rd line of defense to identify trends to ensure stakeholder concerns are identified and addressed.
  • Review issues trends for broader lessons learned.
  • Collaborate with key partners to develop and distribute regular reporting on issue status, ongoing trends and performance against risk appetite metrics.
  • Escalate any critical decisions, roadblocks, or delivery issues to ERM and business line management and other stakeholders as appropriate.
  • Ensure issue process alignment, including clear roles and responsibilities, across the Bank’s three lines of defense.
  • Execute and maintain the risk appetite framework including reporting, escalation, measurement updates and governance.
  • Manage the development, maintenance and analysis of Risk Appetite metrics and thresholds.
  • Drive risk appetite initiatives including review of the risk appetite statement and associated metrics, effective monitoring of risk appetite, and ensuring adherence to related policies and procedures.
  • Continuously and proactively engage with business risk/metric owners to ensure that risk appetite is being adhered to.
  • Assess the emergence of new risks for inclusion in the Risk Appetite Statement, including understanding and accounting for underlying trends.
  • Prepare supporting analysis and documentation for the annual review of the risk appetite statement, metrics and thresholds.
  • Recommend inclusions to the risk appetite statement based on top risks identified for the Bank and analysis of key trends.
  • Ensure risk appetite metrics are adequately captured, monitored and reported.
  • Maintain excellent stakeholder collaboration with teams across the Bank to ensure consistency in setting of risk appetite metrics and tolerance levels.
  • Manage the review and challenge of risk appetite metrics as the 2nd line of defense.
  • Assess underlying reasons for any risk appetite threshold or limit breaches and closely monitor breach remediation plans to their conclusion.
  • Perform effectiveness reviews of risk appetite statement process and standards.
  • Partner across 2nd line of defense functions to contribute enterprise perspective on respective risk and control assessments.
  • Collaborate with business units as needed to develop risk and control assessments across the Bank to promote an integrated approach.
  • Collaborate with and support ERM functional areas (such as operational, fraud or model risk management) in assessing and proposing solutions to process and/or control gaps identified by those programs in the context of the broader ERM program.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 7 years of experience in banking or similar industry with exposure to enterprise risk management responsibilities in either risk and control assessments, compliance, internal audit, business operating or risk oversight function.

A reasonable, good faith estimate of the minimum and maximum base salary or pay for this position is $110,483 to $165,725. Actual compensation will vary based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. A discretionary bonus and/or business line incentive may be provided, in addition to a medical and other benefits, dependent on the position.
