Onslow County Public Schools is Hiring a Parent Family Engagement Coordinator for the 2024-2025 School Year Near Jacksonville, NC

POSITION TITLE:Parent Family Engagement Coordinator
REPORTS TO:Director of Federal Programs
BEGINNING DATE:Open Until Filled
 
 
 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
  • Ability to exercise good judgment, take initiative and work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to interact and communicate with staff and the public
  • Ability to maintain complete and accurate records and to develop meaningful reports from that information
  • Ability to assess the effectiveness of programs and activities
  • Ability to develop long-range plans
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments including students, parents and school personnel
 
 
EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
  • Must hold or be eligible to hold a North Carolina teaching license
  • Spanish language proficiency preferred
 
WORK EXPERIENCE:
  • 3-5 Years in a related position preferred
 
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 10 months
 
SALARY: North Carolina Teacher Salary Schedule
 
FLSA Status: Exempt
 
 
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Develop a Strategic Plan in partnership with school site leaders to coordinate major parenting events, district-wide initiatives involving parents, and district-wide parent engagement activities.
  2. Assist with the coordination of policies and procedures designed to promote and maintain effective relationships and understanding between the school district, parents, and community.
  3. Provide required parental support and engagement activities as specified for family engagement at district and site level.
  4. Work collaboratively with the Chief of Communications to design and utilize media to introduce parents to the school district and enhance school/community relations.
  5. Implement and monitor a variety of family engagement programs and strategies across K-12 schools.
  6. Provide technical support to school sites in the creation of a welcoming school environment component, such as providing school tours and orientation sessions for new families, and developing an outreach strategy to inform families, businesses, and the community about school and family involvement opportunities, policies and programs; provide guidance to schools in the development and enlistment of volunteers.
  7. Support existing family resources at every school to connect families and help them support their child’s learning, build families’ strengths and capacities, serve as a hub for the community, and offer help without stigma by mobilizing the public and providing community resources to help children and families in need.
  8. Direct the preparation and maintenance of a variety of narrative and statistical reports, records, correspondence, and files related to assigned services, activities and operations.
  9. Plan and coordinate training for parents on how to access site, district, and community information.
  10. Attend district, community, and collaborative partners meetings to promote the effective involvement and inclusion of parents in the decision-making process.
  11. Communicate and collaborate with other administrators, district personnel, and outside organizations to coordinate activities and programs, and exchange information; model district standards of ethics and professionalism.
  12. Takes part in opportunities for professional development at the local, regional, and/or state level; attends local meetings and training for parent involvement activities; shares ideas and experiences with school or district staff, leadership team, and/or other parent professionals.
  13. Seeks and obtains grants, cultivates fiscal partnership opportunities, and manages budgets applicable to parent and community engagement programs.
  14. Performs other duties as assigned.
 
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • The ability to be physically active, which includes, but is not limited to, standing, pushing, pulling, squatting, bending, sitting and walking.
  • Ability to reach with hands and arms routinely.
  • Ability to operate technology for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to carry furniture such as tables and chairs, supplies, materials, and equipment.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to visually and auditorily effectively communicate with staff and students.
