Sustainment & Restoration Services (SRS) is an 8(a) firm that provides engineering, science, construction, munitions, and specialized professional services solutions for customers nationwide.

SRS has an immediate opening an opening for a part-time Writing Coach to support the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS). This is an on-site position in Monterey, CA. No remote/tele-work available.

Writing coaches review and consult on thesis and dissertation chapters, capstone project reports, class papers, abstracts, executive summaries, outlines, slide presentations, data presentations and write-ups, bibliographies, and citations.

Writing coaches also design and lead 60–90 minute hands-on workshops or general presentations for students and, much less frequently, non-enrolled DOD personnel. Workshops are offered through the GWC to all students and on a more limited basis as part of regular department classes when invited into the classroom by professors. There are approximately 25 different workshop titles, covering grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, style, word choice, citing, paraphrasing, quoting, organization, critical thinking, argumentation, literature reviews, research methods overviews, science writing, presentation skills, pre-writing techniques, graphics, note-taking, test-taking, formatting, and reading actively, among others.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in English, literature, journalism, communication, rhetoric, international or public policy, or related writing-intensive field from an accredited university.
  • At least four (4) years working directly with university students to improve their writing and critical thinking skills.
  • At least two (2) years of teaching experience in writing and critical thinking at the undergraduate level. Preference given to those with teaching awards.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration to reach mutual goals.

Desired:

  • Production of original creative work, such as a published article, undergraduate thesis, or edited volume.
  • Use of classroom presentation software, such as PowerPoint; classroom management software, such as Blackboard or Sakai; videoconference software, such as Zoom or MS Teams; and originality-check software, such as Turnitin or iThenticate.
  • Master’s degree in English, literature, journalism, communication, rhetoric, international or public policy, or related writing-intensive field from an accredited university.
