Housekeeping Manager

The Housekeeping Manager functions in the role of a key line management position with primary responsibilities to direct the overall operation of the Housekeeping and Laundry Departments in accordance with all current applicable federal, and state guidelines and as directed by the Administrator in a skilled nursing facility.The Housekeeping Manager also assumes the primary responsibility of assuring that the facility is maintained in a clean, sanitary, safe and comfortable manner at all times.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • All staffing functions related to the environmental services and laundry department including recruitment, hiring, orientation, training, supervising, evaluations and terminations.
  • Conducts regular inventories of all environmental and laundry supplies prior to placing orders that remain within budget and meet the needs of the department.
  • Participates as an active member of the facility Safety Committee.
  • Coordinates all efforts to follow-up on reports of lost articles and missing clothing completing all required documentation per grievance form.
  • Coordinates and thoroughly checks resident rooms to assure all new admissions and residents who have transferred rooms are afforded a clean, comfortable, homelike, safe and sanitary environment.Takes any immediate corrective actions as warranted.
  • Checks all other resident rooms, common areas and the exterior of the facility on a daily basis to assure the environment remains clean, comfortable, homelike, safe and sanitary.Takes immediate corrective actions as warranted.
  • Completes required quality assurance reviews of the environment and assures appropriate follow-up action with Maintenance/housekeeping staff to resolve any needed attention/repair.
  • Provides regular staff in services on housekeeping/laundry department policies and procedures, new equipment, safety, supplies, infection control, use of the maintenance log, resident respect and dignity and confidentiality as well as other required in-service programs as deemed appropriate.
  • Coordinates laundry services and works collaboratively with the facility central supply to assure accurate billing of services and/or stock of supply inventory is kept current.
  • Makes written and oral reports/recommendations to the administrator concerning the operations of the department.
  • Other duties as assigned

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak the English language.
  • Basic arithmetic skills for calculation of inventory, ordering costs.
  • Must possess knowledge of housekeeping and laundry service policies, procedures and practices pertaining to health care facilities.
  • Good organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • At least one year of prior managerial experience in an environmental and laundry services position, preferably in a health care setting is desired.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to endure long periods of standing and/or walking.
  • Must be able to sit, stoop, and bend at intermittent periods throughout the workday.
  • May be required to lift/move items that weigh up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to utilize both hands to accomplish tasks; have adequate sight and hearing to avoid hazardous situations.
  • Will be exposed to environmental conditions normally associated with healthcare housekeeping services operations including biohazards, external temperatures
