Position Overview:
The Microbiological Lab Quality Technician will ensure the integrity of each batch of product and consistent quality of production by enforcing good manufacturing practice (GMP) systems; conducting microbiological analysis, validating processes and providing documentation. This position will fill an essential role in monitoring quality programs through regular process checks as well as short and long term projects. Assist in the decision-making process as it related to production and release of product.
Collection and Analysis:
- Collect and prepare samples in order conduct routine and non-standard microbiological testing and analysis of product at various stages along the production process, including finished product, to validate the integrity and quality standards/specifications and ensure that no bad beer leaves the brewery. Including but not limited to:
- Sample collection with various aseptic techniques
- Sample prep and processing (plating).
- Uses direct micro examination and ancillary tests to determine nature of organisms present.
- Evaluates various micro tests and responds to OOS conditions in a timely manner.
- Prepares microbiological media including distribution and sterilization
- Using equipment and SOP validation processes, determines whether or not product meets specification to release or hold. Notify Manager regarding process deviations and/or when production is (or will be) outside of control parameters
- Participation in Sensory Analysis including: triangle testing and tasting samples from each new product introduced to the line
Maintenance:
- Perform instrument operation and maintenance using such equipment as:
- Microscope
- PCR
- Automated cell counter
- Maintains stock and inventory of lab supplies
Process Improvement:
- Assist with development/update regarding microbiological SOPs as well as making recommendation and striving to continuously improve the process
- Participates in Continuous Improvement projects
- Makes recommendations for improved processes
Safety:
- Accurately conduct and document daily and monthly audits and processes with regard to GMPs and HACCP plan
- Enforce and follow all brewery and food safety standards
- Maintains proper lab and lab ware sanitation and sterilization
- Shut down processes that do not comply with BBC GMPs and notify proper parties
- Ensure quality standards are met
- Communicate with various team members about issues following and enforcing all relevant Safety and Quality procedures
Other Responsibilities:
- Maintains level of professional competency through professional development (academic literature, seminars, supplier documentation)
Additional Skills & Qualifications:
Must Haves:
- Completed high school diploma or GED
- Experience working in a fast paced environment
Nice to haves:
- Working towards Bachelor's degree in a science field (microbiology, chemistry, food science).
- Completed Bachelor's degree in a science field (microbiology, chemistry, food science).
- Prior warehouse/production environment experience.
