Salary Schedule: Omaha School Administrators Association (OSAA) Level 8

Position Purpose:

Omaha Public Schools (OPS) is seeking an e xperienced Coordinator of Family Engagement to join our team . The Coordinator of Family Engagement will play a pivotal role in supporting positive relationships between the school district , families , and the community . This position requires strong commun i cation skills, cultural competency , and a passion for promoting family involvement in education. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with school staff , families and community organizations to support student success and strengthen family-school partnerships in alignment with the Strategic Plan.
Essential Performance Responsibilities:
  • Develop and Implement a Family Engagement Framework : Evaluate current family engagement strategies in schools and across the district as part of the implementation of a comprehensive, District-wide framework aligned with the goals and priorities of Omaha Public Schools. The framework should be rooted in a research-based model focused on building relationships, collaboration, empowering families as educational partners, and promoting student achievement and outcomes.
  • Facilitate Workshops and Training Sessions: Plan, organize and provide workshops, training sessions, and informational meetings for staff and families to strengthen the collaborative relationship between home and school. Develop and maintain a network of resources that support families in learning at home, communication with schools, and build capacity to advocate with staff for children's educational needs .
  • Cultivate Community Partnerships: Collaborate with community organizations and service agencies to identify resources to support families and increase engagement opportunities with schools.
  • Provide Support to School Staff: Support school staff in identifying and implementing family engagement strategies aligned to support school improvement goals. Share opportunities and resources across the district to strengthen relationships and communication between home and school that are culturally responsive and inclusive.
  • Coordinate Family Outrea c h Activities : Organize and coordinate various family outreach activities , such as family nights , parent teacher conferences , and community events. Ensure that these activities are inclusive , culturally responsive, and accessible to al l families within the district.
  • Collect and Analyze Data: Collect, analyze, and interpret data related to family engagement and strategies. In collaboration with other District staff, provide technical support to school sites in supporting a "welcoming school environment" for all constituents .
  • Communicate Effectively: Maintain open and transparent communication with families, school staff, and community partners through various channels, including parent-teacher organizations, newsletters, social media, and other platforms. Keep stakeholders informed about upcoming events, resources, and opportunities for engagement.
  • Network in the Community: Attend district, community, and collaborative partner meetings to promote the effective involvement and of inclusion of parents in the decision-making process .
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Minimum of Master's Degree with appropriate course work in areas of administration and supervision , social work, educational psychology, guidance and counseling and other related fields.
  • A valid Nebraska Teaching Certificate with endorsement in areas of administration and supervision preferred.
  • Minimum of three years family engagement leadership experience/responsibilities, preferably in a large school district.
  • Ability to be flexible and shift priorities as needed.
  • Ability to organize, set priorities, and work effectively under pressure.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, ability to communicate well with school personnel, employees, district office staff, families, and community members.
  • Ability to effectively present information to groups of people.
  • Ability to collect and analyze data and maintain accurate records and documentation.
  • Ability to build relationships and work effectively with people from diverse life experiences.
  • Knowledge of outside agencies which offer services for students and families.
  • Displays a significant degree of professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Ability to conform to proper standards of professional dress and appearance.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to the mission, vision, and values of the OPS district.
  • The skills pertinent to positive human relationships and the ability to work effectively with students, staff, parents and the community.
  • Shows evidence of the willingness and the ability to comply with the standards for ethical and professional performance established by district policy and the State Board of Education.
Additional Duties
Performs other related tasks as assigned by central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent or designee.
Equipment: This position may require the ability to use iPads in addition to basic office equipment such as computers, copiers, scanners, and fax machines. Must always comply with OPS's guidelines for equipment use.
Travel : Travel between OPS schools/programs and Central Office will be required. Occasional travel outside the Omaha Metro area may be required.
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards:
  • Must be able to respond rapidly in emergency situations.
  • Must have organization, time management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Work in school-building environments.
Interrelations:
  • Contact with personnel within the district and other stakeholders.
  • Will be working under the direct supervision of the central office administration to complete day-to-day tasks.
  • Will be working with a diverse population requiring the ability to handle all situations with tact and diplomacy.
  • Must understand and respond appropriately to stakeholder needs and maintain a positive attitude with all.
  • Expected to interact with all internal and external stakeholders in a friendly, professional manner and provide quick, responsive service.
Employee Punctuality and Appearance
  • In order for schools to operate effectively, employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday unless the employee has received approved leave.
  • Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employee's supervisor or building administrator.
  • All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of Omaha Public Schools and is appropriate for their position.
Terms of Employment

This position is treated as a full-time, exempt certified position. The terms of your employment will be governed by applicable state laws regulating employment or teaching in a Nebraska public school and Board of Education policies, as those laws and policies may change from time to time. If your position is represented by a collective bargaining representative, then your employment will also be governed by a negotiated agreement between OPS and that collective bargaining representative.
Terms of employment are contingent upon:
  • Verification of a valid Nebraska Teaching License or other required license.
  • A background check which demonstrates background is acceptable for the position sought and working with or around students.
  • Verification of U.S. Citizenship or legal authorization to work in the United States.
  • Successful completion of a tuberculosis skin test (if required by federal law for your position).
  • Execution and delivery to OPS of an Administrator Contract presented by OPS.
