JOB SUMMARY:
The Trained Observer is an entry level position that provides direct patient observation in order to redirect unsafe patient behaviors in an inpatient setting. The Trained Observer strictly performs within their scope of practice as they are trained in basic activities related to the patient’s safety, care and comfort. This position functions as a member of the nursing care team and works under the direction and close supervision of professional nursing staff and the House Supervisor. The Trained Observer prevents the patient from harming themselves or removing medical equipment that could delay the healing process, usually by means of verbal interaction (reassurance and reorientation) and takes appropriate action when required to include accurately reporting immediately to the nurse any change in the patient’s behavior or status. This position involves a range of tasks, including, but not limited to ensuring that the assigned patient(s) is/are safe and unable to harm themselves, communicates effectively with patients and staff, demonstrates a positive and caring attitude and sensitivity to patient’s emotional, social and behavioral needs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education
High School diploma or equivalent, required.
Experience
Minimum one-year experience in long-term or acute care setting preferred.
Licensure/Credentials
Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of hire.
NA-C (CNA) or NA-R (RNA), preferred.
Union
SEIU 1199 Service and Dietary.
