OLUM'S is Hiring a Furniture Repair Technician Near Johnson, NY
Furniture Repair Technician
Finishes or refinishes damaged, worn, or used furniture or new high grade furniture to specified color or finish.
**Will consider applicants with woodworking experience**
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Communicate respectfully with customers.
- Disassemble article, masks areas adjacent to areas being finished, or removes accessories such as knobs and hinges to prepare article for finishing.
- Remove old finish from surfaces.
- Remove excess solvent.
- Apply plastic putty, wood putty, or lacquer stick to surface to fill nicks, depressions, holes, and cracks.
- Smooth and sands surface for finishing.
- Select finish ingredients and mixes them by hand or machine to obtain specified color or shade or to match existing finish.
- Brush or sprays successive coats of stain, varnish, shellac, lacquer, or paint on work piece.
- Grain wood or paints wood trim.
- Polish and waxes finished surfaces.
- Restore wood to natural color.
- Remove and replace upholstery covering, measures and cuts covering.
- Remove and replace defective springs or mechanisms and replaces when necessary.
- Operate a sewing machine.
- Repair wooden frames.
Qualifications:
- Acceptable DMV record
- Excellent Customer service skills
- Lift up to 40-60 pounds consecutively, frequent bending, stooping, pulling, walking and lifting
- Must present a clean, neat appearance
