Job Title: Gift Shop Shift Leader

Reports To: Retail Manager

Type of position: Hourly

Employee Classification: Regular

Location: Tucson, AZ

Compensation: $15.00-$19.00 per hour

Job Summary: Under the direction of the Gift Shop Manager, the Gift Shop Shift Lead helps to oversee all aspects of our Gift Shop/Store departments and the shops located throughout the property. This position will assist in merchandising and product display along with handling the training and support of all gift shop personnel. Our ideal candidate enjoys interacting with the public and strives to provide the highest level of customer service and support to guests and staff alike. This can be a fast-paced position that will be expected to work gift shop shifts while managing other administrative duties with a focus on accuracy and excellence.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the training and performance evaluations of Gift Shop staff ensuring adequate staffing while abiding by organizational scheduling guidelines.
  • Handle the merchandizing, product display and appropriate stocking of all onsite gift shop locations.
  • Ensure that sales employees are providing the highest level of customer service to guests.
  • Insist that gift shop locations exude a bright and inviting atmosphere so that customers feel welcome while maintaining high standards of cleanliness and organization.
  • Assist in hosting regular sales trainings with staff to review effective sales and customer service techniques and to further hone the skills of employees.
  • Find effective methods for motivating sales staff to exceed sales goals established for department.
  • Occasionally participate in the weekly Manager Meeting as a representative of the Gift Shop department to speak on behalf of departmental needs and to advocate for the department, when appropriate.
  • Establish high standard of product knowledge for sales staff.
  • Assist the General Manager, AHR Retail Manager, and Gift Shop Manager with special projects or accepts any other duties requested, as necessary.

Education, Skill & Work Experience Requirements:

  • At least 2 years of retail sales or other applicable experience, strongly preferred.
  • Extensive experience employing effective sales techniques while providing excellent customer service.
  • Prior experience supervising a dynamic and multigenerational staff in a fast-paced and customer-centric environment.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively to a variety of audiences (employees, management and the public).
  • Prior experience and a working knowledge of Point of Sales systems
  • Ability to use computers, MS Office and other applications to handle regular supervisory tasks such as drafting memos, creating schedules, organizing labor counts/budgets, et. al.

Work Environment:

  • Majority of time spent on feet walking and standing on hard and potentially uneven surfaces for 8-10 hours per day.
  • Ability to regularly lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work evening, weekend, and holiday (Required).
  • Comfort with bending, twisting, kneeling to position merchandise or to organize merchandise displays.
