About the Role: 

The Lab Technician, R&D Product Development (Haircare), is responsible for supporting the formulation team in all steps of formula development from ideation to final formulation. Primary responsibilities will be supporting the batching of newly developed products, reformulations, and new raw ingredient evaluations under the guidance of the Chemist formulation team, managing the daily activities and reporting associated with the stability testing program, supporting the internal performance testing of newly developed products, and coordinating/fulfilling the preparation of sample requests from cross-functional partners. The successful candidate is accustomed to working in a dynamic laboratory work environment and has a passion for the cosmetics industry, ideally with prior experience in batching cosmetic formulations. The work enables the development and commercialization of new products and qualification of starting materials and helps ensure the safety, quality, and regulatory compliance of the innovation portfolio and the base business.

• Work with Chemist formulation team and support batching of new formulas and reformulation of existing products under their direction
• Work with laboratory instrumentation to assist Chemist formulation team with their day-to-day requirements, including collection and recording of formula specifications (e.g. viscosity, pH, specific gravity)
• Conduct and record stability testing results and summarize data for review with Chemists at each test period
• Prepare (batch, fill packaging, label) and submit samples to cross-functional partners and external testing laboratories
• Use laboratory notebook and IT system to promote good documentation practices: record new formulations, manufacturing process, specifications
• Partner with Chemist formulation team to identify & evaluate novel raw materials for future projects
• Support the laboratory by regularly calibrating equipment and instrumentation and keeping a log of calibration activities
• Partner with Chemist formulation team to conduct various performance tests on developmental formulations using in-house instrumentation and prepare data summary reports
• Support Package Development Team with filling of samples for testing purposes

About You:

• High school diploma or Associate in Science degree
• 3 years laboratory experience. Background in cosmetic batching preferred
• Ability and desire to apply a broad range of Analytical techniques and methods
• Ability to occasionally lift heavy objects and stand for long periods of time to support batching
• Team player with the ability to communicate effectively with partners in the innovation process
• Proactive self-starter with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a fast paced environment
• Organized and highly detail-oriented with the ability to utilize Microsoft Excel and other technology platforms to record data and observations

Our Total Rewards: 

The annual base pay for this position is $53,000 - $60,000 with eligibility for an annual bonus. The actual base pay will vary based on factors such as qualifications, years of relevant experience, skill level, functional expertise, certificates or other professional licenses held and geographic location.
