Who We Are: The Field and Research Service Unit (FRSU) is a component of OSU Ag Research that has a mission to conduct research on agriculture, natural resources, rural economies and social issues to increase science-based knowledge and develop technology to improve the lives of Oklahomans.
The Field & Research Service Unit encompasses the infrastructure and local staff for field- and lab-based research experiments. Facilities include 19 research stations that span the diverse environments across Oklahoma and the campus based Controlled Environmental Research Lab, Stored Products Research Center, multiple greenhouses, and core lab facilities. This position is located at the Mac Lindley Research and Demonstration Farm in Valliant, OK.
Position Duties: General Duties include assisting in the initiation and conducting of ongoing cattle research including maintenance of the research station facility, pastures, and equipment. Assist with heat detection, breeding, monitoring herd health, calf watch, and keeping accurate records on all cows and calves. Aid in the initiation and maintenance of agricultural and Natural Resource Management research. Assist in maintaining security and appropriate accountability of all station property.
Must maintain quality working relationships with station personnel, project leaders and project personnel, university and division administration and other individuals or groups involved at the research station.
Basic computer operation is required for communication, record keeping, and training. This included web-based reporting of work and leave, email communication. Must complete required trainings and certifications.
This position requires a service attitude with strengths in teamwork, professionalism, resource stewardship, good work ethic, and willingness to complete other tasks as assigned.

Required Qualifications: High School/GED with 2 years related experience.
Work related experiences include but not limited to: familiarity with farming practices, livestock care, farm equipment operation, equipment repair, and workload management, basic research practices in agricultural or natural resources management.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Within 14 days of hire must successfully complete and maintain OSU Animal Care and Use training with associated Occupational Health and Safety Program completion.
  • Within 9 months of hire must obtain: 1) an Oklahoma Ag Chemical Technical Service Applicators or Demonstration and Research license. 2) Beef Quality Assurance certification
Ability to work with people, good communication skills, service attitude, ability to provide clear directions. Ability to work with faculty, staff, technicians, and graduate students of many departments within the Division of Agricultural Science and Natural Resources as well as the public and visitors to the research station. Ability to assist in demonstrations of equipment and station research areas.
Excellent record keeping skills and organizational skills.
Computer knowledge and operation is required for communication and record keeping. This included web-based reporting of work and leave, email communication, and Microsoft Word and Excel for record keeping.
Some mechanical knowledge for general maintenance of equipment.
Preferred Qualifications: Vocational/Technical training in Animal Science, Agriculture or related area.
Two years of work-related experience that includes operating agricultural equipment, cattle care and management, executing agricultural research projects and leadership and/or supervisory experience.
Class A CDL license, Oklahoma Pesticide Applicators license
