Job Summary:

This position assists in the development, implementation, and management of the OSU Quality Improvement Program for assigned programs or areas in research. Communicates policies and procedures and evaluates all aspects of assigned program (s); prepares written reports including recommendations, as required.

The Compliance Analyst helps to ensure that the Research Compliance office meets its responsibility of fostering a humane and compliant environment for all human subjects research participates, as well as, live, vertebrate animals employed in research, teaching and testing activities conducted under the auspices of the University. This position plays a vital role in protecting the rights and welfare of human subjects and live, vertebrate animals involved in research as well as promoting animal welfare and ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations.

The incumbent will assist the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and the Institutional Review Board (IRB) with monitoring the conduct of research and teaching activities. Active protocols will be monitored following IACUC or IRB approval to ensure that research and teaching activities involving human subjects or animals are performed in accordance with federal, state, local and institutional requirements. Integral to this program will be scheduled visits to areas and facilities where these activities occur. The incumbent must maintain a thorough working knowledge of and ability to apply federal regulations and guidance pertaining to the care and use of animals in research and teaching activities. He/She must also strive to create a culture of respect for, and awareness of, the rights and welfare of human research participants, while advancing knowledge and facilitating the highest quality research.

Normal working hours are Monday – Friday, from 8:00am – 5:00pm. However, due to deadlines and other factors, hours outside the normal working schedule may be required. Travel is required, including travel for laboratory inspections, safety training and professional development.

The potential exists that the incumbent may be exposed to hazardous environments during site visits. Due to communication expectations of the position, the incumbent will be required to maintain cellular or other electronic communication device. The negotiated salary will include an amount deemed to be sufficient to apply toward the use of a personal cell phone. Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. Must be able to easily access confined laboratory spaces. Must be able to wear/use personal protective equipment (PPE), including respiratory protection.

Position Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences or a related field.

One year of relevant professional experience in veterinary medicine, animal research, teaching activities involving animals, or closely related experience and/or relevant professional experience in IACUC and or IRB, research administration, clinical research, or other closely related experience.

·The individual must have a background in laboratory research with experience in IACUC and /or human subjects research and/or animal research.

·Experience conducting audits or inspections.

·Experience with research ethics or compliance.

·Must possess a valid driver’s license for travel between sites.

·Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

·Exemplary verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to interact effectively with a diverse audience of professionals.

·Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

·Strong organizational skills and excellent time management skills.

·Detail oriented, with a high degree of accuracy.

·Posses a high degree of initiative and the ability to work independently.

·Ability to prioritize and manage multiple deadlines simultaneously.

·Ability to work well under pressure and maintain professional standards under routine conditions of severe and non-negotiable time constraints.

·Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks in an organized manner while carrying out tasks accurately.

·Skills to read, interpret, and author complex documents such as research protocols, regulations, and policies.

·Ability to wear/use personal protective equipment (PPE), including respiratory protection.

·Proficient computer skills, which include word processing (MS office applications) and database applications.

·Must have strong self-motivation and an interest to engage in and foster collaborations with scientific investigators and research staff.

·Attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree

In addition to minimum required experience listed above, additional experience with OneAegis program, EH&S Assistant program and COI Smart software packages.

·Certification as an AALAS technician (ALAS, LAT, or LATG) or Certified Professional IACUC Administrator (CPIA) preferred.

·Certifications (i.e. CPIA, LAT, LVT) and 3-4 years of experience could be considered in lieu of education.

·Certified Institutional Review Board professional (CIP)

·Experience working with human subject research and familiarity with IRB procedures and regulations (e.g., the Belmont Report, the Common Rule).

·Working knowledge of relevant federal regulations (e.g. Animal Welfare Act, Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals).

·Experience with laboratory animal research protocols.

·Strong understanding of animal welfare principles and IACUC guidelines.

·Knowledge of specific research areas relevant to the institution.
