Ensures the proper care and maintenance of all county facilities; provides clean, safe, attractive and efficient environments in which county staff may work and the public may conduct business.
Education, Training and Experience: High school diploma or GED supplemented by minimum four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in facility maintenance, two (2) years of which in a supervisory/management capacity, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Experience with Microsoft Office, Outlook, Word and Excel required. The ability to calculate square footage preferred. The ability to read and interpret blueprints and plans preferred.
Licenses and/or Certifications: Requires a valid driver license.
Physical Requirements: Must be able to operate a variety of hand-held and electrical equipment and tools; including vacuum cleaners, carpet cleaners, wet dry vacuums, floor buffers, scrubbers and burnishers. Must be able to exert 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Must be able to perform manual tasks and remain on feet for extended periods of time. Tasks include considerable bending, stooping, climbing, etc., and working in confined spaces. Requires full range of body motion in manipulation of limbs and torso. Required to work from ladders and personnel-lifts for extended periods of time to complete certain tasks (i.e., cleaning windows and vents; changing light bulbs, etc.). Physical demands are in excess of those for sedentary work.
Language Ability: Must be able to communicate effectively in Standard English and to convey information to others. Must be able to read and comprehend Standard English, rendered in formats such as cleaning agent instructions, warning labels, equipment operation directions and other materials related to the job.
Intelligence: Requires the ability to apply principles of common sense understanding to carry out written or oral instructions, to deal with problems involving concrete variables in or from standardized situations, to perform manual labor and machine operations, to make independent judgments in the absence of supervisor, and to acquire knowledge of topics related to primary occupation.
Numerical Aptitude: Must be able to add and subtract totals. May require the ability to multiply and divide.
Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond receiving instructions. Must be able to perform under stress when confronted with an emergency or tight deadline. Requires the ability to exercise consistent tact and courtesy when in frequent contact with various professionals, county staff, and the general public.
