The Ohio Optometric Association (OOA) seeks a part-time (up to 28hrs) employee for the role of Assistant Program Coordinator for the Ohio Optometric Foundation’s In-School Eye Exam (iSee) program. There is the opportunity for this position to become full-time.

About the iSee program
The In-School Eye Exam (iSee) program focuses on improving access to vision care for children throughout Ohio, especially those living in under-resourced communities. OOF partners with school districts and local Doctors of Optometry to organize school-based clinics where comprehensive eye exams and eyewear are provided at no charge to students. Students qualify to participate in an iSee event if they are not currently under the care of an eye doctor, have been referred from a vision screening, recently placed on an Individualized Education Plan, or are suspected of having an undiagnosed vision disorder.

The iSee program is currently going through a rapid growth phase having received significant funding from the state. The ideal candidate for this position will demonstrate a willingness to navigate potential changes associated with a fast-evolving program and will also show a willingness to participate in the evolution of the program’s direction.

Position Description
The Assistant Program Coordinator is a grant-funded position, responsible for working with eye doctors, schools and other locations to organize iSee events. When needed, the Assistant Program Coordinator will staff iSee events, assisting the doctors and school staff with administrative and program support.

The Assistant Program Coordinator reports to the Chief Operating Officer. This is a hybrid position, with some ability to set your own schedule. The position is expected to be in person during the orientation period which lasts approximately 2-3 months. In state travel is required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Communicate with ODs about the opportunity to organize an iSee clinic.
  • Connect ODs with schools that are interested in hosting an iSee clinic.
  • Work with other OOA staff to ensure students participating in an iSee event also receive Realeyes educational materials.
  • Help ensure ODs are collecting and reporting data obtained from clinics.
  • In-state travel required to drop off/pick up portable equipment.
  • Manage equipment inventory.
  • Complete all administrative work related to the iSee program.
  • Assist in program maintenance and development to assure quality control.
  • Moderate lifting, moving, loading, and unloading portable ophthalmic equipment.

Preferred Qualifications
Associate degree or equivalent education and one year of relevant experience working in the health care field or non-profit sector is preferred. Ability to travel in-state. Excellent communication skills, organized, detail-oriented, the ability to multi-task with complex scheduling, and to work successfully with a wide-range of audiences is required. Experience working in a school setting or enjoys working with a pediatric population is a plus. While part of team, the ability to be self-directed and work independently is preferred.

Compensation and Benefits
Compensation is commensurate with experience. This is a part-time position, eligible to participate in 410k plan after 12 months or 1000 hours of employment.
