Assistant Attorney General

Southeastern MA Regional Office

(New Bedford)

Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell is looking for a highly motivated individual to join her Southeastern MA Regional Office (SEMA) as an Assistant Attorney General.

Primary Duties: The Assistant Attorney General (AAG) in SEMA will handle assignments across a number of divisions within the AGO, including in the Consumer Protection, Neighborhood Renewal, and Constitutional & Administrative Law Divisions. Specifically, the position entails working with the Office’s Consumer Protection Division to identify problematic business practices that negatively impact consumers, evaluating their suitability for enforcement, and ultimately, investigating and litigating civil actions on behalf of the Commonwealth, where appropriate. As a part of the Office’s Constitutional & Administrative Law Division, the AAG will represent state agencies and officials in a broad range of appeals and civil litigation in state courts. As a part of the Office’s Neighborhood Renewal Division, the AAG will work to strengthen communities by revitalizing neighborhoods through the equitable preservation of existing housing and by supporting the creation of affordable housing.

Position Type: Full-Time/Exempt

Salary: $78,586 to $117,879, commensurate with JD year and experience.

Qualifications

Position Requirements: Must be a member of the Massachusetts bar. At least five years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, relevant legal experience preferred. Applicants should be highly motivated, intellectually curious, and able to integrate new and complicated subject areas. Valid driver’s license is required, as travel may be required to various courts, client and opposing party locations, and law offices. Applicants must have a solid work ethic; strong organizational skills and attention to detail; strong analytical, writing, and communication skills; and the ability to simultaneously focus on multiple projects and prioritize tasks under a tight schedule. Applicants must be able to build and maintain relationships with staff and communicate respectfully with members of the public. We seek a candidate who can work both independently and as part of a team with an interest in improving the lives of Massachusetts residents.
