The Office of the Attorney General is seeking candidates for the position of Assistant Attorney General in the Opioids Enforcement Unit of the Consumer Protection Division to investigate, initiate, and litigate complex cases involving the illegal marketing, sale, and distribution of opioids and other controlled substances. The Opioids Unit investigates and litigates cases against participants in the healthcare and other industries who have contributed to addiction and death through the illegal marketing or selling of opioids and other controlled substances and related goods and services. The successful candidate will serve on a team of attorneys that actively investigates and litigates cases in state and federal trial and appellate courts, federal bankruptcy courts, and administrative tribunals involving opioids and other controlled substances. Occasional travel may be required.
EXPERIENCE: The ideal candidate will have at least five years of litigation experience, including any clerkships. Candidates who demonstrate outstanding academic performance, law review participation, judicial clerkship, internship experience, and relevant civil, appellate, bankruptcy, or administrative litigation experience are preferred. Experience in complex civil litigation (such as class action, mass tort, multidistrict, food and drug, or similar multi-party litigation) is also desirable. Admission to the Maryland Bar, or the ability to waive in, is required.
