Company Profile

Oceaneering Space Systems (OSS) is a precision engineering and manufacturing group which specializes in turn-key design, development, manufacturing, certification, maintenance, and testing of extra-vehicular and intra-vehicular (EVA & IVA) tools and equipment for astronauts; including life support and environmental control systems for space; robotic systems for military, space, and biological research; and thermal protection systems for launch vehicles. We also provide specialized engineering and support services in these areas, and astronaut training in NASA's Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory.

Position Summary

This job supports a critical sub-system of the Gateway Program which will return to the Moon.

Duties & Responsibilities

Functions

  • Work will include concept studies, mission planning analysis, evaluation of new technologies, and the preparation and presentation of architecture study products
  • Perform and review system level architecture trade studies and analyses that will influence the overall system design and performance
  • Participate in a team environment for the development of human space exploration architectures and concepts for the human return to the moon and planning for future Mars exploration
  • Documentation of space exploration architectures using systems engineering principles (e.g. DoDAF or similar)
  • Work with team members in the development of system requirements, Concepts of Operations, mission objectives, functional allocations, etc.
  • Work in a team environment and report to the team lead to provide status on progress and issues and for support
  • Maintain a professional relationship with the NASA customer and other NASA support contractors
  • Perform other duties as required

  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities

  • This position reports to the Project or Program Manager
Qualifications

Required:

  • BS degree in engineering from an accredited engineering school and ten 15 years of direct engineering experience.
  • Advanced degrees may be considered as work experience
  • 10 years experience with human space exploration with demonstrated skills in architecture development /evaluation and documentation
  • Experience with space mission analysis (e.g., orbit analysis, delta-V budgets, spacecraft constraint evaluation)
  • Familiarity with human space exploration systems (for example Orion, Commercial Crew, ISS, EMU/xEMU)
  • Experience with giving briefings to senior leadership (both verbal and written)
  • Experience with requirements development, design trades, development of Concept of Operations, and system analysis of space hardware
  • Basic knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures in the space hardware field, such as mechanical and electrical system design, engineering drawings and sketches, and material selection
  • Knowledge of systems engineering principles and associated documentation
  • Ability to prepare written documents and to verbally present at various meetings.
  • Must be able to organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines and schedules with limited supervision
  • Experience working in a team environment
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office products

Requisition Preferences:

  • Experience with DOD Architectural Framework (DODAF), TOGAF, Zachman Framework, FEAF, or other formal architecture development/documentation approaches
  • Advanced engineering degree (e.g. MS or Ph.D.)
  • Experience/familiarity with surface mobility systems (e.g. lunar or planetary rovers)
  • Skilled in STK/Astrogator or similar programs
  • Experience mentoring team members
  • Familiarity with NASA/JSC engineering processes
  • Familiarity with NASA/JSC mission planning products
  • Prior systems engineering & integration experience roles in early program phases
  • Familiarity with NASA/JSC documentation databases and share point sites as well as typical systems engineering products
  • INCOSE Systems Engineering Professional certification
