Job Description:

Position Overview:
The Lead Import Agent will deliver a consistent and high-quality experience to OCEANAIR Inc.’s customers, both external and internal. This employee will work efficiently in a team environment to process and secure import shipments and support all sales efforts and quotes as assigned by the department manager or supervisor. The ideal candidate will pay close attention to details while ensuring all necessary paperwork is complete and acceptable for entry to customs with the ability to interact with officials at multiple agencies daily.
***Schedule for this position may require weekends on a departmental rotation basis. This position may require working a holiday schedule based on the needs of the operation and requirements of the account.

Major Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for the movement of goods from other countries, ensuring the transit and delivery are made on time. This requires liaising regularly with overseas offices, partners, or agent’s customers and will involve all modes of transportation.

  • Obtain charges and cargo release details from freight forwarding agents, shipping lines and airlines.

  • Responsible for ensuring any payments dues are made in advance of any shipment as required, processing all payments and necessary paperwork for accounting purposes while following company requirements.

  • Check manifests, invoices, and orders to ensure they are recorded accurately.

  • Must be able to manage deadlines and address difficult situations, therefore an element of negotiation is required to meet commitments in a timely manner.

  • Work closely with customers to ensure any problems, damage, or anomalies are corrected.

  • Identify, investigate, and resolve all areas of client concern in a timely and proactive manner. Alert clients to special areas of concern or potential problems in the import process.

  • Lead and support team members on any project within the company that will improve and further develop the department.

  • Set the standard of adhering to the policies and procedures of the department and company.

Skills & Qualifications:
  • 5 years hands-on experience in forwarding, logistics or distribution operations preferred.

  • Previous knowledge of customs compliance regulation is desired.

  • Highly organized, detail oriented, and ability to multitask.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.

  • Hazardous certification is preferred.

  • Strong numerical skills are required.

  • High attention to detail and sense of urgency.

  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office.


Work Environment:
  • Work is performed in an office environment where there is no substantial exposure to adverse environmental conditions. Work requires close attention to task for work to be accurately completed. Intermitted breaks during the workday do not compromise the work. Work requires constant respond to changing circumstances and using new information to adjust approach and to quickly respond to new needs.

  • Sensory Essential Functions include close work, visual examination of paperwork, computer monitor and keyboard use, conversations, telephone and background noise.

  • Physical Requirements with reasonable accommodations:

  • Light work requiring exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally in carrying, lifting, pushing or pulling. Job consists of sitting, standing, walking, squatting and twisting.
