OBGYN Associates of Erie is Hiring a Medical Assistant - Urgent Care Near Erie, PA

JOB SUMMARY: The Medical Assistant works closely with Providers and other Urgent Care staff to provide supportive services and quality care to patients.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Prepare exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments
  • Take patient histories and vital signs
  • Prepare patient for examination and treatment
  • Apply splints and dressings, prepare and maintain supplies and equipment for treatments including sterilization
  • Assist physicians in preparing for minor surgeries and physicals
  • Perform phlebotomy and distributive laboratory paperwork
  • Dispense medication as directed
  • Instruct and educate patients about discharge instructions if applicable
  • Perform selected nursing and administrative duties as directed
  • Handle telephone calls from clients, patients, prospective patients, physicians, pharmacies, as well as other staff
  • Provide solutions to patient concerns within the scope of position
  • Provide accurate and timely documentation to provider staff, insurance carriers and companies
  • Correspondence by phone, in person, or in writing with regard to patient care, i.e. insurance carriers, physicians, non-clinic physicians
  • Maintain patient records for clinical use, medical records use, billing use, physicians’ review, etc.
  • Log and mark charges on superbills per billing office protocols
  • Document patient files, records, forms, and other information
  • Assist with scheduling of test and treatments
  • Screen phone calls for referral to physician
  • Be sure work area appears neat, well stocked, and organized Other Duties
  • Consistently demonstrate internal and external quality customer service standards to all that request assistance, responding in a professional manner
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned


COMPETENCIES:

  • Basic typing and keyboarding skills
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology
  • Knowledge of medical practice and care to assist in giving patient care
  • Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment
  • Excellent communication skills

  • Demonstrates flexibility by adapting to new and changing situations and duties in order to accommodate patient needs effectively
  • Works independently
  • Exercise judgment and makes decisions
  • Ability to prioritize responsibilities
  • Requires adherence to all policies and procedures, including standards for safety, attendance, punctuality and personal appearance
  • Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Physicians, Supervisors and peers
  • Must be able to work weekends Saturdays and Sundays


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.


WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and fax machines.

Occupational Exposure:

Category 1 Has a high risk of occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens

Category 2 Has a moderate risk of occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens

Category 3 Has a low risk of occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Hearing: Adequate to perform job duties in person and over the telephone.

Speaking: Must be able to communicate clearly to patients in person and over the telephone.

Vision: Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including reading information from printed sources and computer screens.

Other: Requires frequent bending, reaching, and repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, squatting and sitting, with some lifting up to 50 pounds, pushing and pulling exerted regularly throughout a regular work shift.

POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:
This is a full-time position, 36 hours per week/3 days per week.


TRAVEL:

No travel required.


REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Must have at least a high school diploma and/or equivalent.
