Employment Opportunity: Oak Middle SchoolPOSITION: Reading Specialist, Grades 7 & 8Begins with the 2024-2025 school year.Posted: April 23, 2024Closed: May 15, 2024 Shrewsbury Public Schools is currently accepting applications for a Reading Specialist for Oak Middle School, beginning with the 2024-2025 school year. We are interested in candidates who are invested in the achievement, equity, and access of all learners in and beyond the classroom.Candidates with diverse racial, ethnic, cultural, religious, class, and/or gender background and experiences are strongly encouraged to apply.The Reading Specialist Teacher for Oak Middle School (Grades 7 & 8) must possess a thorough understanding of current reading pedagogy, assessment, and evidence-based intervention strategies, and be able to collaborate with classroom teachers, administrators, and other educational professionals to support students' reading success and educator effectiveness. The Reading Specialist is also responsible for providing specialized instruction to students who require additional support in reading and literacy skills and must have the ability to assess what reading interventions are needed for individual students and for the school as a whole. The reading specialist may work with students 1:1, in small groups, or in the classroom setting. Key Responsibilities:•The reading specialist will collaborate with administration and colleagues to plan and deliver professional learning opportunities for teachers in best practices in reading instruction and interventions.•Administer assessments to identify students who require reading intervention•Develop and implement individualized reading plans for students•Utilize evidence-based interventions to support student progress in reading•Monitor and track student progress through frequent assessments•Work collaboratively with classroom teachers to support student success•Communicate with parents and guardians about students' progress in reading•Facilitate data-informed discussions related to reading instruction and intervention •Maintain accurate records of student progress and services provided•Perform other related duties as assignedQualifications:•Bachelor's degree in Education, Reading, or related field•Master's degree in Reading or related field preferred•Licensure through the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education in Reading, All levels•Experience in teaching reading at the middle school level•Knowledge of evidence-based reading instruction and intervention strategies•Strong communication and collaboration skills•Ability to work independently and as part of a team•Experience with assessment and data analysis•Exhibits the core values of Shrewsbury Public Schools•Works flexibly in a changing environmentPlease find information about Oak Middle School at:https://schools.shrewsburyma.gov/oak Find more information about Shrewsbury Public Schools athttps://schools.shrewsburyma.gov Application Process:Interested candidates should submit a cover letter, resume, official or unofficial copies of undergraduate/graduate transcripts, license # or unofficial copy of license if applicable, and three current professional letters of reference, including one from a direct supervisor, professor, or evaluator.
