POSITION SUMMARY: The Bottling Machine Operator 1 is responsible for ensuring that the correct dry goods are being used by following all written procedures and that all equipment is operating in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with established machine center SOPs. Along with keeping the bottling line(s) running, the Bottling Machine Operator 1 is responsible for ensuring the work area is clean and well organized and upholding our Lean Culture.

REQUIREMENTS:

Beginner - Bottling Line Operator 1 level:

The Skill Level is based on the following requirements: Team members can perform the following duties: general labor as the utility operator, unloader operator, and case packer operator. The team member must have successfully read and understood the training manual, trained for a minimum of 40 hours operating the packer, and successfully passed the written exam and knowledge test.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Understand and comply with BRC, GMPs, and HACCP processes and procedures
  • Must ensure proper material usage at the machine center according to the spec sheet
  • Ensure your machine center is working and operating correctly and safely
  • Must be able to make minor adjustments to fingers, brushes, sensors, rails, etc. at the machine center
  • Assist with rework of bottles as needed
  • Monitor line flow of product from unloader to the wrapper
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-speed environment, follow standardized work, and adhere to safe work practices in a continuous improvement environment
  • Perform necessary pre-operation activities to ensure proper equipment startup and operations on multiple pieces of equipment
  • Communicate with team members and support teams to ensure continuous production of the correct product at high-quality levels with minimal wasted time and materials
  • Must maintain proper housekeeping in the surrounding work area
  • Perform periodic checks on equipment and troubleshoot problems as detected
  • Run test products to ensure the quality and accuracy of production
  • Oversee machines, belts, etc. during production and adjust speed and/or movements as needed
  • Observe and monitor input/output, accuracy, and efficiencies of machine
  • Record daily activity log of production notes (totals, defects, etc.) 
  • Report more serious machinery problems to the line lead and bottling maintenance
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Lead, Foreman, Supervisor, or Manager
  • Must be able to perform all essential duties of General Line Worker job description
  • Willing to perform repetitive tasks for extended periods
  • Learn and understand production procedures 

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skill, and ability required. Minimum Qualifications

  • For this role only: Must have worked as a temporary employee through a staffing agency on the O'Neill Bottling Line for 580 hours.
  • 1-3 years of machine operator experience
  • Ability to work any shift, 7 days a week, and able to work overtime as necessary
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions in English (per safety requirements)
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to move and/or lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide, using whole numbers and decimals

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in bottling/food manufacturing
  • Forklift experience is a plus
  • Ability to work semi-autonomously and think “outside of the box”
  • Basic troubleshooting skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to do the following: 

  • Stand for prolonged periods.
  • Perform some repetitive motion activities.
  • Coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Lift, move, and stack boxes up to 50 lbs.
  • May be required to operate a forklift if properly certified.

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Knowledge of food safety programs is a plus (FSMA, BRC, HACCP)
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of OSHA/CAL-OSHA safety training
