POSITION SUMMARY:

New York Film Academy NYC Teen Summer Camp is looking for an organized, skilled, and efficient TA Coordinator. The TA Coordinator is responsible for hiring, training, and supervising the Technical Assistants (TAs) who assist and advise campers in the production of digital film shoots. TA’s are role model figures for our energetic, artistic student body, and must commit to helping maintain an educational, safe, and fun environment for the campers. It is the TA Coordinator’s responsibility to ensure all TA’s understand their role and to intervene and provide feedback when they [TAs] are not fulfilling their job responsibilities in a satisfactory manner.

New York Film Academy’s Teen Summer Camps provide intensive programs in filmmaking, acting, screenwriting, musical theatre, documentary, and photography for campers of ages 14 to 17 years old.

Effective Date: Part Time: May 6, 2024 to Seasonal Full Time: 06/17/2024 - 08/14/2024

REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following responsibilities are general duties that a particular employee in this position may or may not be required to perform. The day-to-day duties required of this position may vary.

  • Facilitate and oversee all aspects of the hiring process for Technical Assistants (TAs)

  • Develop an onboarding process for newly hired TAs, such as training, orientation, uniform distribution, etc

  • Establish safe and effective shooting guidelines and protocols

  • Oversee the execution of shooting guidelines and protocols to ensure a safe and effective production environment

  • Collaborate and coordinate with Teen Equipment Room Manager to ensure safe and effective production environments

  • Advise students on technical and creative matters including writing directing, lighting, shooting, and editing

  • Coordinate with Teen Equipment Manager to determine equipment needs and assist in it’s acquisition from the adult equipment room

  • Create and maintain effective channels of communication with the Teen Equipment Room and Edit Lab

  • Schedule TAs in accordance with classroom needs and other activities as needed

  • Coordinate with Residential Director for airport-run needs, and schedule accordingly

  • Coordinate with the Director of Teen Camps to determine additional TA scheduling needs outside the classroom, such as orientation, open casting, final screenings, etc.

  • Maintain various logistics necessary to ensure the smooth running of production, including airport pick-ups, graduation screenings, etc.

  • Assist with shooting scenes in class and/or other production needs in the class or on-set

  • Assist with the build out before the program begins

  • Assist with the breakdown after the program ends

  • Support the Teen Office with facilities and operations needs on a needs basis

  • Determine equipment, software, or other supply needs and communicate with with Operations to obtain

  • Approve and review TA staff payroll biweekly

  • Maintain on-call availability throughout the duration of the camps, including weekends

  • Support Administrative staff with facilities and operations needs

  • Supervise camper production crews on location shoots and offer technical assistance to campers to ensure their proper and safe use of equipment

  • Advise campers on technical and creative matters including writing, directing, lighting, shooting, and editing

  • Other duties as assigned by Teen Camp Director, Assistant Director, or senior management

KNOWLEDGE AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds including camper, faculty and staff

  • A strong commitment to and enthusiasm for engaging with youth filmmakers and mentoring their artistic ambitions and talents

  • Ability to work hard, respond to emergencies, and always maintain the safety and educational environment for the students

  • Strong technical grasp of film equipment such as HMC, 5D Mark II, C300, shotgun mics, tripods, onboard shock mounts, c-stands, boom poles, etc

  • A working grasp of Final Cut, Avid and Adobe Premiere is a plus

  • A solid grasp of basic light set-up, including 3-point lighting, basic power distribution, light control with gels, etc.

  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to meet and serve the public, both in person and by telephone, tactfully and effectively

  • Ability to work well in a team atmosphere

  • Perform basic math

  • Understand written procedures, write routine documents, and speak clearly; and understand multi-step written and oral instructions

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

  • Ethical / Honest - evidence of the practice of a high-level confidentiality

  • Service and Action oriented does what it takes to meet the expectations of customers.

  • Collaborative enlists information from all sources to ensure the best solution to an issue

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION:

  • High School/GED required.

  • Experience providing technical support on film shoots and/or art events required

  • Film/Video Production Experience

  • Prior experience of a NYFA Technical Assistance or coordinator experience preferred

  • Experience working in a fast-paced multi-tasking results driven environment with attention to detail.

  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suites and GSuite

  • Experience and comfortability with students ages 14-17

ENVIRONMENTAL / ATMOSPHERIC WORKING CONDITIONS:

The following environmental / atmospheric working conditions are commonly, but not always, associated with the performance of this position. The actual working conditions will vary.

  • Office Environment

  • Outdoor/Indoor Film Set environment

  • Ability to lift, carry, push and/or pull documents/boxes weighing up to 25 lbs

  • Ability to climb a ladder, standing, bending and stooping

  • Sit for long/high periods of time to perform various computer/administrative tasks

  • Reasonable dexterity of hands and fingers to operate and/or manipulate computer keyboard and other office equipment

  • Lift, carry, push and/or pull Boxes/Equipment/Supplies/Set Pieces/Stage Flats/Furniture weighing up to 30 lbs

  • Minimal travel as needed

  • Verbally and effectively communicate utilizing face-to-face contact and telephones

  • Variable work schedule, to be determined - some evenings and weekends may be required
