POSITION SUMMARY

Coordinate and supervise various quality assurance programs. Formulate and train Supervisors and plant management on quality control policies and control quality standards in production and manufacturing processes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Essential Functions Statements:

  • Maintain Process Parameters database and issue Casting Job sheets for daily runs.
  • Train direct-report employee(s) on safety rules, and ensure compliance.
  • Facilitate the analysis of product scrap, documenting causes and preventative actions.
  • Coordinate the dissemination of product and process quality data for other departments to insure appropriate information flow, via Reports, Visual Management Boards, etc.
  • Supervise Sand Lab and oversee sand testing. Monitor the molding sand properties and equipment through Historian database. Report on issues.
  • Serve as the technical resource on molding sand and its components. Oversee the composition of the molding sand to maximize properties.
  • Oversee metallurgical properties including sampling, compilation of chemical and physical data, analyzing results, reviewing for trends and preparing summary reports for managers.
  • Lead other departments on process and material improvements. Arrange for sample materials to improve process or reduce cost. Coordinate with other departments to establish basic process control parameters for molding and melt. Create and implement inspection and testing criteria or procedures.
  • Collect and analyze production samples and/or photos to evaluate quality.
  • Verify that raw materials, purchased parts or components, in-process samples, and finished products meet established testing and inspection standards.
  • Confer with Customer Service and Sales departments to define client requirements and expectations.
  • Participate in the development of product specifications. Ensure compliance with customer quality requirements.
  • Provide input to Advance Sales Engineers for any customer quality issues, whether external or internal.
  • Track defects, test results, or other regularly reported quality control data.
  • Identify quality problems or areas for improvement and recommend solutions.
  • Serve as liaison for technical advancements with corporate and other groups
  • Facilitate product testing at off-site labs such as load testing and x-rays.
  • Support advances in green sand molding, and keep abreast of industry advancements through the American Foundry Society and other related sources.
  • Produce reports regarding nonconformance of products or processes, daily production quality, root cause analyses, or quality trends. Collect, analyze, and summarize information and trends. Document testing procedures, methodologies, or criteria.
  • Other duties as needed or assigned to support management.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Education:

Bachelor's Degree (four year college or technical school): Preferred

Experience:

Minimum 3-5 years of experience in Quality or Engineering. Foundry experience desirable.

Computer Skills:

Microsoft office proficiency including Excel and Access and ability to adapt to various software used in the business as part of one's functional responsibilities.
