NUECES COUNTY COMMUNITY ACTION AGENCY is Hiring a Cook Near Corpus Christi, TX

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
This position requires assisting in all aspects of the nutrition and food program particularly in food preparation. 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES 
  • Prepares hot and cold food, includes entrees, vegetables, salads, desserts, and snacks for Head Start centers.
  • Performs duties in accordance with the Child and Adult Care Food Program, Head Start Department Standards, Local Healthy and Licensing Regulations.
  • Follows daily meal production (including Form 1530) and standardized recipes at all times, and follows cycle menu.
  • Packs meals in accordance with schedule and production procedures and prepares meals for transportation.
  • Assist with infant food preparation.
  • Follows proper procedures for food handling and food preparation, forecasts food types and supplies in necessary quantities.
  • Responsible for checking that all food needed for daily operations is available when needed.
  • Performs daily pre-preparation to ensure smooth kitchen operations and assists in the overall kitchen sanitation duties in food preparation areas.
  • May be asked to load/deliver food and non-food items to classrooms. 
  • Assists in receiving, storing, dating, and rotating stock inventory. 
  • Participates in staff training and/or workshops also in cross-training efforts to enhance skills. Show potential to learn Child and Adult Care Food Program Regulations. 
  • Maintains compliance with applicable local, state, and federal sanitation regulations for food service operations.
  • Participates in menu planning when requested and performs other cooking duties as assigned.
  • Assists in dishwashing duties.
  • Responsible for maintaining and recording proper food temperatures. Reports unsafe food temperatures to immediate supervisor.
  • Straightens and assist in receiving, storing, dating, and rotating stock inventory using, FIFO. Clean out storage areas. 
  • Cleans and sanitizes the kitchen (i.e., building, equipment, windows, restrooms, breakroom, and office area, to include carrying out trash to dumpster as per schedule.
  • Filling and distributing classroom requisitions for supplies at Kids of the Neighborhood campus. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor and/or Food Services Coordinator.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
  • High School diploma or GED, and 
  • Two (2) years’ experience in food preparation (including quantity cooking).

  • Possesses basic math skills. 
  • Shows potential to learn Child and Adult Care Food Program regulations.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Must successfully complete and maintain the following permits, and certifications:
  • Food Handlers Permit; will need to be renewed bi-yearly by expiration date.
  • First Aid certification; will need to be renewed every two (2) years by expiration date.
  • CPR Infant/Toddler certification; will need to be renewed every two (2) years by expiration date.
  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug test.
  • Must successfully pass and submit a pre-employment TB test and must successfully pass and submit a TB test annually thereafter.
  • Must successfully pass and submit a post offer physical examination within two weeks from the date of hire.
  • Must possess a valid Texas Driver's license Operators-Class C) and driving record must be (approved by insurance company on an annual basis.
  • Must have transportation and current liability coverage on vehicle to be used in the performance of job duties. Some out-of-town travel may be required.
  • Dresses in appropriate attire (clothes/shoes) with a neat personal appearance. 
  • Proof of work eligibility must be provided. 
PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Normal physical activity includes occasional sitting and frequent standing and walking in a usual workday.
  • Requires employee to lift and carry heavy objects such as boxes of supplies and equipment.
  • Requires employee to use hands, arms, feet, legs, neck, and head while performing various Agency tasks.
  • Requires use of the five senses (hearing, seeing, touching, smelling, and tasting) to perform various job duties.
  • Requires occasionally climbing a ladder, footstool to store inventory and occasional reaching above shoulder level for inventory.
  • Requires use of the five senses (hearing, seeing, touching, smelling, and tasting) to perform various job duties.
  • Requires loading and delivering food and non-food items to Head Start classrooms by lifting and carrying heavy boxes of food and paper items.
  • Requires occasionally climbing a ladder, footstool to store inventory and occasional reaching above shoulder level for inventory.
  • Requires employee to open and close heavy oven doors, to pick up and carry heavy pots and pans by bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, twisting, balancing, and reaching above shoulder level.
  • Requires speaking/hearing abilities with supervisor, other food services personnel, teachers/assistant teachers, and children.
