The Material Handler/Crane Operator reports to the Distribution Supervisor and performs the material movement utilizing a bridge crane and/or forklift.Responsibilities:Performs the unloading/loading of trucks, stocking, and transferring of material with the use of a dual hoist bridge crane and/or standard forkliftAttends all training and safety meetings as directedPerforms daily inspection of crane, pendulum control unit, wire ropes, and other accessory equipmentReports all deficiencies found and unusual noises and difficulties in the operation of the equipmentIdentifies material to be placed into production, verifying correct tag and heat numbersDetermines the weight of the material and utilizes a crane with the appropriate capacityAssists and directs riggers in properly securing material on the crane before moving materialAdvises all co-workers in the area before the movement of material on the overhead craneFollows all company policy procedures, watches for potential risks in the area, and notifies management of deficiencies identifiedAttends all training and safety meetings as directedPerforms daily housekeeping and organization of assigned areasAssists with stock checks and physical counts as directedAssists in training co-workers as requestedPerforms other tasks as directedQualifications:2 years of related experienceKnowledge of crane capacities, accessory equipment, rigging, and ability to move large-sized and/or unusually shaped steel plates in a safe mannerStrong organizational skills and attention to detailAbility to calculate the weight of the material and read measuring tools such as a tape measureAbility to maintain confidentialityProfessional communication and interpersonal skillsPhysical Requirements: Must be able to traverse the distribution warehouse and access a variety of storage spaces and shelving units by stretching, squatting, and reaching. Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions and temperatures in the warehouse.
