North Shore Steel is Hiring a Night Shift Material Handler - Crane (Operations) Near Houston, TX
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Crane Operators are warehouse material handlers that perform the material movement utilizing a bridge crane and/or forklift. This position reports directly to the Distribution Supervisor. PRIMARY DUTIES:
Performs the unloading/loading of trucks, stocking and transferring of material with the use of a dual hoist bridge crane and/or standard forklift
Successfully perform tasks with the use of bridge cranes that are 10–20-ton capacity
Successfully perform tasks with the use of forklifts that are 5k-8k capacity
Successfully perform tasks with the use of propane sit down lifts
Perform daily inspection of crane, pendulum control unit, wire ropes and other accessory equipment.
Immediately report all deficiencies found and unusual noises and/or difficulties in operation of the equipment.
Identify material to be placed into production, verifying correct tag and heat numbers. Determine weight of material and utilize crane with the appropriate capacity.
Assist and/or direct riggers in properly securing material on crane before moving material.
Always be ware of activity/co-workers in the area to ensure the safety of all. Advise all co-workers in the area before movement of material on overhead crane.
Follow all company policy procedures and be vigilant in watching for potential risks in the area and notify management of deficiencies identified.
Attend all training and safety meetings as directed.
Perform daily housekeeping and organization of assigned areas
Assist with stock checks and physical counts as directed.
Perform other tasks as directed.
Assist in training co-workers as requested.
SKILLS:
High level of attention to detail.
Knowledge of crane capacities, accessory equipment, rigging and ability to move large sized and/or unusually shaped steel plate in a safe manner.
Ability to calculate weights of material.
Strong verbal communication skills.
EXPERIENCE: At least 2 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Familiar with safe work practices, and procedures.
