NRHA aims to create and apply meaningful housing and neighborhood development programs to serve all residents of Norfolk, Virginia.NRHA looks for people who want to work in a challenging and progressive environment and make a positive difference in the community.About the Position The Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority (NRHA) seeks qualified candidates for the position of Resident Services Specialist for its Oakleaf Forest public housing community, located at 1701 Greenleaf Drive in Norfolk, Virginia. The jobholder conducts assessments of the social service needs of public housing residents, provides referrals and counseling on a variety of financial, work, family, social, personal, and other matters; and assists the community Property Manager in providing services to residents.Key Responsibilities The primary duties of this position include:Conducting client assessments of public housing residents.Counseling residents at assigned community on a variety of economic, social, personal, and other issues.Performing general social service case management duties.Assisting Tenant Management Corporations (TMCs) associated with the assigned community with program development.Planning, organizing, and conducting workshops to residents on a variety of economic, social, and other issues.Establishing and supervising resident support groups at the assigned community.Coordinating human services programs that are implemented at the assigned community.Assisting others with the development and publishing of public housing community newsletters.Participating in a variety of community, NRHA, and City of Norfolk teams, committees, and task forces; includes assisting other Resident Service Specialists on team projects.Advising, conferring, and guiding Property Managers on social services issues at assigned communities.Maintaining a secure resident document management system.Performing a variety of administrative detail work.About the Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate will have:A bachelor's degree education in Social Work, Sociology, Urban Studies, Public Administration, Business Administration, or other related field.Completion of some college level graduate courses is preferred.Five to seven years of progressively responsible experience in human services case management.Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience necessary to obtain the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.NRHA will consider equivalent substitutes for education and/or experience, provided that the candidate can demonstrate that he/she has obtained the knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the job.NRHA offers a competitive compensation and benefits package. The pay range for this position is from a minimum of $37,710.40 per year to $65,866.40.The pay offer will be made withing this range and is determined by the candidate's work history and skill mix.
