NOV is Hiring an Assembly operator Near Bakersfield, CA

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Cuts and hand lay up glass materials to proper size. Operates material slitting equipment, cuts to length and operates the saw or other manner of material cutting to size for later use in tank, sump, or product construction or FS material needs.
  • Operates equipment and materials handling equipment; including but not limited to shell cut off saw, pencil grinders, die grinders, 4 grinders.

7 grinders, wet grinders, manway and other holesaws, air movers, floor jacks, mechanical electric and pneumatic hoists, drill press, material saw, material slitter, tank turners, forklifts, air monitors, air movers, emergency eyewash, collar and manway installation jigs, respirators, dotco saws, diatrim saws, and vacuum pump.

  • Takes direction from the operator in fabricating, preparing and installing tank, sump, and product accessories. Cuts, grinds, smooths, fabricates, prepares, patches, installs parts as needed for secondary hand layup bonding (including but not limited to center joint seams, offline seams, fixtures, endcaps, collars, manways, access openings, nozzles, strap clips, reservoirs, sumps, fittings, pump platforms, ladders, OWS plates, bulkheads, deflector plates, PVC stubs, rope lugs, lift lugs, manway extensions, sump construction, etc)
  • Performs secondary bonding procedures in accordance with parts being constructed by the work crew (typically but not always an assembly operator and an assembly fabricator).

Uses power tools and equipment to assemble and repair fiberglass tanks, sumps, and parts. Wets out materials and rolls air bubbles out during layup

  • Cuts materials using template, straight edge. Etc. Controls inventory and storage of materials, rolls and sheet per fiberglass operation build schedule requirements.
  • Visually inspects, takes measurements and other process checks and notifies appropriate personnel of quality issues.
  • Mixes resins and catalysts according to conditions to insure proper laminate cure. Saturates fiberglass materials, wets out bonding surfaces prior to layup, applies resin wetted materials, rolls out layup to remove air and make quality secondary bonds.
  • Assist in the matching and layout of shells per specifications (including but not limited to identifying and locating fittings and accessories, cutting and grinding, etc for secondary bonding).

Performs layouts (including but not limited to manways, fittings, deflector plates, nozzles, collars, reservoirs, sumps, pump platforms, ladders, OWS plates, bulkheads, lift lugs, rope lugs, and PVC stubs).

Marks, stencils and labels product per specification.

Assists in the lay out, fabrication and assembly of tanks, sumps, and products from shop drawings. Checks, cleans, performs minor maintenance on tools and equipment to insure applicating efficiencies.

Cleans rollers and tools.

  • Applies guides, lugs, marks, stencils, labels as per instructions.
  • Operates material handling equipment as needed. Notifies supervisor or maintenance department of any issues in a timely fashion.
  • Participates in the safety and good housekeeping within the plant.

The employee must be able to lift and / or move 50 pounds occasionally, 20 pounds more frequently, and 10 pounds constantly.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include near vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job in the plant the employee is exposed to wet and / or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts;

work at platform elevations; contend with fumes and / or airborne particles and dust proper respiratory and vision PPE; contend with outside weather conditions.

Some of the rotary or reciprocating equipment will have vibrations, the nature of the resins subject employees to some chemical hazards which are reviewed.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, though some areas require hearing protection, with some areas a part of a hearing conservation area.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma
  • Min. 2 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Working in high noise area.
  • While performing the duties of this job in the plant the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel;

reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk, hear, and smell; pushing pulling, and reaching with some repetitive motions.
