Organizational Overview: Notre Dame School of Milwaukee (NDSM) is a Catholic School founded by the School Sisters of Notre Dame in Milwaukee, WI. The school was founded in 1996 as Notre Dame Middle School, an all girls 5th-8th grade middle school to serve Latinas on the southside of Milwaukee. Today Notre Dame School of Milwaukee is a Grade K3-8 Catholic school sponsored by the School Sisters of Notre Dame. It has a co-education primary school serving boys and girls in a Spanish and English dual language model. NDSM addresses the urgent, critical needs of the community through student-focused education. We currently serve over 690 students across three campuses and we have both an all-boys and all-girls middle school, a co-ed primary school, and an Early Childhood Education program. Position Overview: The Nutrition Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of food service as well as supporting the operations department at our K3-8 school. This includes managing the transition from outsourcing food preparation to in-house cooking. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in food service management, nutrition, and leadership skills to ensure the delivery of high-quality, nutritious meals. Additionally, the role will involve working closely with the Director of Operations and Nutrition to assist with daily administrative and operational tasks as needed.

Reporting Relationship: Reports to Director of Operations and Nutrition

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive plan, which includes internal processes and procedures, to transition food preparation from outside preparation to in-house preparation, this may include menu planning, staffing, and equipment procurement within the first year of employment.
  • Maintain necessary program documentation, submit all required reports to reporting authorities, and successfully complete kitchen inspections and administrative reviews as required by DPI and local government agencies.
  • Oversee kitchen operations to ensure efficient workflow, timely meal preparation, and proper portion control.
  • Establish procurement procedures to source high-quality ingredients while staying within budgetary constraints.
  • Implement food safety protocols and sanitation practices to maintain a clean and hygienic kitchen environment.
  • Manage inventory levels, monitor food costs, and identify opportunities for cost savings without compromising quality.
  • Evaluate the satisfaction of the food service program through regular assessments and make adjustments as needed.
  • Stay current with regulatory requirements and industry trends related to school food service.
  • May include hiring, training, and supervising kitchen staff, including cooks, and food service workers, to ensure compliance with food safety and sanitation regulations.
  • Maintain positive relationships with vendors, community partners, and other stakeholders.
  • Implement nutrition education initiatives and wellness programs within the school community.
  • Monitor food quality through regular tasting sessions and feedback mechanisms.
  • Provide administrative support to the Director of Operations and Nutrition including:
  • data entry
  • invoice
  • utility track
  • report generation as needed
  • Other nutrition program and operations projects as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent educational experience, with academic major or concentration in food and nutrition, food service management, dietetics, family and consumer sciences, nutrition education, culinary arts, or a related field.
  • Previous experience in food service management, preferably in a school or institutional setting desired.
  • Strong knowledge of nutrition principles, dietary guidelines, and food safety regulations.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders and manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Proficiency in G-Suite and food service management software.
  • Reliable transportation for some travel among three campuses.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) may be an advantage, but not required.
  • Wisconsin resident and eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.
