Position Title: French Teacher - Montessori - 4th Grade Reports to: Grade School Principal FLSA Classification: Exempt QUALIFYING CHARACTERISTICS
Knowledge and understanding of and commitment to the Sion mission
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education in French
State certification preferred
Knowledge of personalized and differentiated instruction, and of different learning preferences
Excellent verbal and written communications skills
Demonstrated leadership and facilitative skills
Strong public speaking skills
Ability to interact professionally with students, parents, faculty and staff
Flexibility in working with a variety of faculty across the Pre-K-8 divisions in faculty committees
Strong ability to work collegially with the Division faculty and support team
Ability to set goals and accept professional feedback and be flexible with working arrangements and assignments.
Must demonstrate competency with school related technology
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
Lead French instruction for Montessori through 3rd-grade students consisting of 30 class sessions per week in Montessori and Primary classrooms (Ground,1st and 2nd floors), with two plans per day.
Collaborate with other teachers to horizontally and vertically align Sion’s curriculum
Work with world languages content leader on content, planning, and programming
Employ effective classroom techniques that are fair, just, and age-appropriate
Responsible for regular parent communication through students’ homeroom teachers’ emails, appropriate digital classroom management systems, and participate as required in parent/teacher conferences twice a year
Participate in the “life of the school” through service projects, Mass/prayer service, assemblies, community garden, admissions events, Sion Alliance events, mission related retreats and advancement events
Participate in assigned and self-directed professional development to enhance classroom practice
Actively participate in monthly faculty development meetings and before school, after school, recess, or lunch duties as assigned.
Assist with other projects, programs and planning as assigned by Grade School Principal
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
Ability to effectively and efficiently work in a classroom setting
Ability to move about in a multi-level building by use of stairs or elevator
Be able to occasionally bend, stoop, squat
Work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time
Be able to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs.
Work primarily in a traditional climate-controlled environment
Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold
