Northwestern Mutual is Hiring a Lead Advisor Near Brainerd, MN

Cowell Financial is an established comprehensive financial advisory firm located in the beautiful Brainerd Lakes Area. We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented advisor for our Lead Advisor position. See below for what this full-time opportunity entails and the characteristics of the right candidate.

The right candidate has wealth management and comprehensive financial planning experience with demonstrated success, exceeding activity and performance metrics in client facing roles. 

The Lead Advisor is responsible for supporting Cowell Financial’s investment and planning recommendations, and plan implementation for clients. The Lead Advisor is also responsible for maintaining and further developing existing client relationships through ongoing reviews and exceptional service. This role also has new business development goals that will be achieved through target marketing/prospecting, fact finding and onboarding new clients.

  • Client facing responsibilities (included but not limited to):
    • Conduct reviews with existing clients of the firm to ensure all aspects of the financial plan are still relevant to the client's goals. Identify planning and investment opportunities as the client's needs evolve (or as the economy/market changes)
    • Foster relationships with existing clients to ensure the proper level of service is provided to continue the work and planning that was set forward by senior advisor/firm
    • Build relationships with the next generation of the clientele (children of clients)
    • Prospect to target markets on behalf of the firm for new clients
    • Fact finding with new targeted prospects to determine if onboarding as new clients
    • Participate in client meetings for financial plan or investment plan development or presentation. Prepare planning and investment recommendations to clients
    • Provide technical explanation of investment plans to clients
    • Explain advisory products and performance to existing and new clients
    • Explain Cowell Financial value proposition to existing clients and prospects
    • Oversee and provide service to advisory clients
    • Discuss tax consequences, costs, advisory fees, etc. with clients
    • Develop new markets that align with the firm’s mission, vision and values
    • Develop COI relationships in existing and new markets
  • Operational responsibilities and activities:
    • Learn firm’s planning and investment philosophy
    • Finalize planning analysis and investment proposals for existing and new clients
    • Prepare cases for review: allocation and investment adjustments, rebalancing accounts
    • Prepare planning and investment recommendations to clients
    • Monitor industry trends and research and provide team with updates
    • Able to run performance reports in Envestnet, Y-Charts, Morningstar, NM proprietary software, etc.
    • Onboard clients to the integrated/aggregated website
  • Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s Degree
    • SIE, Series 63, Series 6 licensed
    • Life & Health licensed
    • Serie 7 licensed, or desire to acquire
    • CFP designation or desire to acquire
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Strong critical thinking, financial analysis and problem-solving skills required
    • Strong attention to detail with ability to work with a high degree of accuracy and autonomy
    • Demonstrate ability to maintain effective working relationships with clients
    • Willingness to learn and grow
    • Ability to embrace change and work in a fast-paced environment
    • Ability to work independently and with a team
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times
    • Individual and small business tax background desired
    • Outstanding at performing and comprehending mathematical calculations, including Time Value of Money and operating a financial calculator
    • Desire to be with people and build client relationships
    • Describes themselves as a connector
    • Demonstrates ability to maintain effective working relationships with clients
    • Enjoys corresponding with new and existing clients via phone, email and text
    • Comfortable speaking and presenting to groups
    • Strong critical thinking, financial analysis and problem-solving skills required
    • Ability to assess and analyze client financial situations to develop and implement comprehensive financial plans aligned with client goals
    • Ability to simultaneously manage numerous complex projects and assignments in a timely and quality manner
    • Ability to simultaneously manage dozens of complex projects and assignments, within an extremely high-paced and demanding environment, in a timely and quality manner
    • Possesses a true commitment to lifelong learning, professional development and self-improvement
