Job Description: As a Construction Estimator, you will be responsible for accurately estimating the costs of construction projects, including materials, labor, and subcontractor expenses. Your expertise in construction estimating, attention to detail, and ability to analyze project requirements will ensure accurate and competitive bids. You will collaborate with project managers, architects, subcontractors, and suppliers to gather necessary information and provide comprehensive cost estimates.

Responsibilities:

  • Review project plans, specifications, and contract documents to understand project requirements.
  • Analyze project scope and develop accurate cost estimates, including materials, labor, and subcontractor expenses.
  • Conduct site visits to assess project conditions and gather information for accurate cost estimation.
  • Collaborate with project managers, architects, and subcontractors to gather pricing information and assess constructability.
  • Identify and quantify project risks and uncertainties and incorporate them into cost estimates.
  • Prepare and submit detailed bid proposals, including cost breakdowns and project schedules.
  • Evaluate subcontractor and supplier bids and negotiate pricing to ensure competitive pricing.
  • Maintain a comprehensive and up-to-date cost database to support accurate and efficient estimating.
  • Continuously monitor and analyze industry trends, materials costs, and labor rates to stay informed and adjust estimates accordingly.
  • Collaborate with the project team during the pre-construction phase to provide cost-saving suggestions and value engineering options.
  • Participate in project meetings to provide cost-related input and support decision-making.
  • Provide support during project handover by communicating the cost basis to the project management team.
  • Review and analyze historical project data to improve estimating accuracy and efficiency.
  • Maintain relationships with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure competitive pricing and availability of resources.
  • Participate in post-project evaluations to identify areas of improvement for future estimating processes.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or a related field is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction estimating, preferably in commercial construction.
  • In-depth knowledge of construction materials, methods, and costs.
  • Proficiency in construction estimating software, such as RSMeans, ProEst, or similar tools.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong mathematical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Familiarity with construction scheduling and project management concepts.
  • Knowledge of local building codes, regulations, and permitting processes.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
