Position Summary:

The Nursing Services Summer Intern will split time between a variety of departments. Three days in our Homecare office interacting with a variety of staff members that support our patients and their family members. The position will prepare admissions information for new patients, assist with answering phone calls and other administrative tasks and projects. Two days in Med/Surg, the Birth Center, and the Emergency Departments. The intern will interact with patients while providing them with our Concierge Cart services, answer incoming calls to the department, conduct audits, and other administrative tasks and projects.
In addition, the intern will spend at least 10% of the time observing and meeting with various departments in the hospital and our clinics to gain a broad perspective of healthcare.
This summer internship is available as part of the Minnesota Hospital Association's Summer Healthcare Internship Program (SHCIP).

Qualifications:

• Current post-secondary student enrolled in a Minnesota educational institution or a Minnesota resident enrolled in an out-of-state program. Post-secondary students must be enrolled (but not graduating this year) in a two or four-year health care degree program with the intention of completing the program.
• OR will have completed junior or senior year of High School this school year with the intention to complete graduation requirements.
• Skills in Microsoft programs include Word and Excel; Outlook and PowerPoint are preferred.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to take ownership of projects, follow instructions, and work independently or with minimal supervision.
• Solid attention to detail, organizational skills, flexibility and customer service.

Schedule:

• Monday-Friday; 8:00am-5:00pm from May 28th though August.
• This internship will not start before Memorial Day and will not last past Labor Day. There is some flexibility in a start and end date.
