Job Description
General Description:
NOVA Workforce Adjunct faculty members are responsible for effectively planning and teaching courses in the designated discipline/field of study to students from a variety of academic backgrounds and experiences. Teaching may include a variety of formats: face to face, remote, and online. Teaching load is based on student enrollment and staffing needs. The adjunct faculty contract contains no expectation or guarantee of continued employment.
Must reside in the (DC, VA, MD) DMV area.
Duties and Tasks: ·
  • To teach the CALP class and curriculum to individuals with entry level leasing experience in the apartment industry. ·
  • To utilize the provided materials and implement a variety of teaching styles and make the learning environment as interactive as possible. For example, using ice breakers, being very flexible and able to pivot away from the strict agenda when called for, being fluid with multiple tools in your toolkit of how to teach. ·
  • To ensure an understanding of the concepts, utilizing role-playing techniques and case studies.
  • To respond to questions about the industry and provide real-world examples.
  • To include supporting topics on overall business etiquette and business casual dress codes.
  • To teach CALP to the job and not to the exam
  • To teach all customer service aspects of the leasing position.
  • To develop a sense of professionalism in the students
  • To teach the Federal Fair Housing Law and assure understanding, through multiple modalities including videos, discussions, and polling.
  • To include a range of soft skills in the class including affirming resume development and mock interviews.
  • Complete all mandatory training at hiring and annually thereafter.
  • Maintain records, assign grades, and assess student progress.
  • Adhere to policies, procedures, and regulations of NOVA and the VCCS.
Essential Functions:
As a part of the primary responsibility to provide quality instruction, the College expects each faculty member to meet assigned classes regularly; submit required records and reports routinely; teach the prescribed courses of study with the established texts; and adhere to the statement on professional ethics in accordance with College policies, procedures, and regulations.
Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications
KSA’s
  • Deep knowledge of CALP curriculum and Federal Fair Housing Law
  • Highly experienced Canvas/Blackboard or related LMS usage for instruction (assignments, quizzes, discussion boards, gradebook, modules).
  • Excellent organizational skills and classroom management skills.
  • Ability to work with groups of varying ages and skill levels – including differentiating instruction.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work individually as well as on a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
Required Qualifications:
  • Two (2) years of teaching experience in CALP for certifications
  • Experience training adult learners
  • Experience using learning management systems (Canvas, Blackboard, etc.)
Additional Considerations
  • Certifications:
    • CALP
    • CAM
  • Have experience in training or education,
  • Have taken a CALP or CAM class,
  • Have awareness of any new or local ordinances,
  • Have a stronger than average understanding of the industry,
  • Prior experience teaching in higher education.
  • Experience teaching in classroom, hybrid, and online formats.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive working and learning environment.
  • Experience teaching students from diverse language backgrounds and varying levels of proficiency.
