Northern Middlesex YMCA is Hiring a YMCA Camp Ingersoll Facility Director Near Middletown, CT

Reports to: YMCA Camp Ingersoll Director

FLSA Status: Non-exempt / Seasonal

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

YMCA Camp Ingersoll is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic professional who is passionate about working outdoors while maintaining and improving the grounds throughout our 77-acre facility at YMCA Camp Ingersoll. Under the guidance of the Camp Director, the Facility Director creates an environment where campers, families, businesses, and communities can come together to have fun, learn, and stay safe. The Facility Director position provides opportunities to be creative, to restore, to problem solve, and to work hands-on completing projects that improve the quality of the Ingersoll experience. The Facility Director generally works March – November for 24 hours per week. Exact schedule can be flexible based on discussion with the director. There may be opportunities to continue working at the Middlesex YMCA through the winter.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid CT Driver’s License
  • Ability to lift and hold up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to obtain CPR/First Aid Certification

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Experience in facilities and site management in addition to maintenance of building standards
  • Valued skills are basic carpentry, plumbing, minor electrical and small motor repairs, along with basic skills including machine maintenance, painting, landscaping, and janitorial skills.
  • Supervisory, management, organizational, and communication skills
  • A potential candidate is safety conscious with the ability to prioritize, plan, delegate, and follow through in a supportive and professional manner while communicating effectively with the Director and other staff.
  • Although the Facility Director and Camp Director will work together to prioritize projects and expectations, a successful Facility Director has the ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage a budget.
  • Ability to operate and maintain equipment including (but not limited to) a Kubota tractor, mason dump truck, golf cart, chainsaw, and other power tools

PRINCIPLE ACTIVITIES:

  • Prepare Ingersoll for the summer camp season
  • The season begins with assessments of the grounds and utilizing capital funds to improve the facilities.
  • The Facility Director will review the budget and order supplies in order to open and clean all buildings, treat and start the water system, and perform maintenance to buildings and grounds to ensure safety and sustainability.
  • An action plan is created to guide improvements, in coordination to day to day routines completed by summer staff.
  • Prepare all grounds for the summer including pole tent set up
  • Oversee and Supervise Camp Facility Operations
  • During the summer, the Facility Director creates task lists and routines for the summer staff, while supervising performance to ensure expectations are fulfilled.
  • Daily tasks include unlocking all buildings, cleaning all bathrooms and buildings, transporting lunches to our cooler, grounds keeping (mowing, trimming, painting, etc. . .) and responding to needs as they arise.
  • Prepare camp for the winter and next summer
  • The Facility Director takes time in the fall to plan capital improvements, finish projects that were not completed during the camp season and arrange for contractors to complete work if needed.
  • Before December, all water lines are cleared, all buildings closed, and all areas of camp are prepared for the winter: leaf removal, ordering supplies, cleaning program areas, etc. .

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Sufficient physical strength and agility to carry out essential duties.
  • Ability to erect and stand on ladders and platforms at heights up to 20 feet.
  • Ability to work with paint, cleaning equipment, chemical compounds, solvents, cleaners, and solutions in dry, liquid, powder, spray, and aerosol forms.
  • Ability to paint, clean equipment, and operate motorized equipment as needed.
  • Ability to work in conditions that will create dirt and dust.
  • Ability to perform essential maintenance to facility or equipment which may involve, but not limited to the following activities: semi - reaching to full-reach overhead; crouching; kneeling; shoveling; carrying, working in narrow and/or confining spaces: underground, overhead, and at ground level; twisting of the waist, shoulders, and legs; and lying on stomach and/or back; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50lbs. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
