Northern Light A.R. Gould

Department: Ultrasound

Position is located: Northern Light A.R. Gould Hospital

Work Type: Full Time

Hours Per Week: 40.00

Work Schedule: 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM

Summary :

The sonographer performs ultrasound examinations of selected portions of the anatomy as requested by the clinician. The sonographer is expected to perform a variety of procedures with the necessary knowledge and ability for the purpose of obtaining diagnostic quality ultrasound scans for interpretation by the radiologist and/or cardiologist.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs ultrasound procedures in accordance with departmental protocols and procedures within standard time frames.
  • Maintains equipment in good operating condition and operates equipment according to department and manufacturer’s recommendations.
  • Prepares and orients patients to the procedures.
  • Is cooperative and helpful in a clear and courteous manner to co-workers, staff, patients, and visitors.
  • Maintains and exhibits a current knowledge of ultrasound technology and participates in continuing education.

Other Information :

AVAILABILITY REQUIREMENT

  • Eight hours per day with periodic overtime. Periodically, may be called in to perform ultrasound examinations after regular scheduled hours. Shares call hours with other sonographers in department. Call hours cover weekends, evenings, nights and holidays.
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be proficient in all assigned aspects of general ultrasonography.
  • Two to five years' experience preferred but not necessary.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Satisfactory completion of formal ultrasound training in an AMA approved program.
  • Current registration by the Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (or registry eligible) Must obtain certification within 12 months of hire.
  • Required to learn vascular exams within 12 months of hire Continuation of education to expand into echocardiograms may be required to meet staffing needs.
  • De-escalation and workplace violence training will be completed at hire prior to release from orientation.
  • BLS is required within the first week of employment. Employees must maintain CPR certification throughout employment when in a clinical position.
